You can target folks who are underrepresented in the industry by posting the job in places where these folks might be.

Try the Revision Path job board: http://revisionpath.com/jobs/

Consider submitting your company to Good for POC: http://goodforpocin.tech/how-it-works/

You could also sponsor a podcast by POC/LGBTQ+ designers, post an ad on a site or blog by someone who fits this description, join a meetup, talk to friends who are underrepresented, etc. There are also many wonderfully talented designers on twitter and portfolio platforms which you could reach out to directly about the role if they're a fit. You could also ask them to share it with their networks.

It's important that you make sure you're supporting these communities (pay for an ad/listing, listen to what they look for in a work environment and/or offer something in return) so that you're not strictly using them to help you with recruiting.

I second PIA, I bought an account after the repeal and have had a great experience. I had some personal recommendations and read only positive reviews. I have my parents on here now as well, the price is hard to beat if you're looking for continued use.

You may want to look at Design Lab and their remote mentoring/education programs. I have mentored several students on there, would be happy to chat. drewacreative(~at~)gmail(~dot~)com

Is Illustrio now exclusively icons (instead of the illustration/visuals previously included)? I can see how the knowledge barrier of implementing complex interactive svg illustrations might have inhibited that business model (whereas icons may appeal to a more confident dev audience). I am excited about the future of svg interactivity on the illustration end and was impressed by Illustrio's previous model. This seems like a more viable service but I'm curious about how that decision was reached.

  • Posted to Design Process is a Myth, in reply to Dan Sim , Oct 07, 2016

Agreed, and the title is a little misleading since the article is primarily comprised of describing a type of design process which is instead called a pattern for unexplained reasons.

Personally I don't find the word process more prescriptive than the word pattern.

  • Posted to Ask DN: What are you reading?, Sep 18, 2016

    Reading a few things:

I try to always be reading a novel (or something more prosaic), something nonfiction related to professional development, and a comic. Sort of doubling down on the nonfiction with the first two.

Thanks, Jason! I'll make sure to do some research but this will make a huge difference in my development.
