    It's sad to see all the thought and justification that goes into these designs so overlooked.

    I'd be interested to see an article where Eli analyses a design at more than just face value.

    I think, then, we would all be more inclined to listen to what Eli has to say.

    Completely agree with @Daniel De Laney

    The objects in most of these are justifiably related to the product itself. Fair enough if they straight up copied the stylistic attributes of the competitor's icon, or if the concept is abstract in association with the product (eg. the photos icon), but that is certainly not the case in the majority of the examples given.

    The file name has a unique 7 digit number/key in it. The app reads the file name and associates the key with Mailbox's backend service to authenticate the app for that user.
