I think this is targeted at advertising agencies. I could easily see it being used for a faster/cheaper alternative to creating comps in advertising. It would be a lot easier to create a model in the right pose/lighting/demographic than to endlessly search through stock photos to find the right photo. It could also help more precisely art direct illustrators or photographers.

Similarly, I also think it could make story-boarding a lot faster. Just find the right pose and trace!

    Hi Alejandro.

I found your comment insensitive and indicative of the many unspoken challenges women face in the design industry. I'd be happy to elaborate if you have more questions, but I feel like Emily's post is pretty thorough.

You'd think that such a detailed takedown of a fucking keyboard would warrant the tiniest bit of typography research.

I feel like I need to chime in.

For reference, I own a Cintiq 27HD (non touch) and have not used the Apple Pencil. I work as an illustrator and designer. My illustrations range from storyboarding, editorial and iconography.

I don't think that the Apple Pencil is a better option for illustrators like myself. Even though the Cintiq is heavy, takes up a lot of space, and the color correction isn't perfect (though I wouldn't describe it as "whack"), that's not the reason I use it.

I use it because it's ergonomic (I use an arm that lets me adjust the angle), precise, and lets me use the full capabilities/plugins/resources available with Photoshop CC, Illustrator, and other programs. I've never had latency or "pen tip wobbliness" problems with my Cintiq, and I've never accidentally hit the wrong buttons.

Sure, I'm sure I'd enjoy the convenience of the Apple Pencil on the go, and the Apple Pencil is without a doubt better for UX designers who only need to sketch occasionally and don't mind using paired-down versions of Photoshop.

This review is highly biased. I love my Cintiq and it's a great tool for someone whose primary role is illustration.

Mostly the threats escalate, becoming more specific and targeted. In many cases trolls will escalate with doxxing and swatting. A specific shooting massacre threat was made to discourage an appearance of Anita Sarkeesian at Utah University.

Kathy Sierra wrote a long article detailing her harassment by online trolls. Even if nobody has been actually murdered or raped (yet) living in constant fear of being in physical harm is psychologically very damaging.

What does this have to do with the industry? It means we need to be more vigilant about checking our attitudes and expectations regarding women.... for example... by dismissing them by insisting that they should ignore these sorts of threats.

Ignoring threats has really not fared well in other female unfriendly industries such as gaming and comics. Rape and Death threats are usually only the beginning, and the only way for them to stop is if these women withdraw their voices from the community altogether.

I honestly don't know the solution to the toxic misogynist problem, but telling women to keep quiet isn't the answer.

It looks to me like a custom-made Art brush in Illustrator, similar to these from Vector Mill Mid-Century Modern Crate.

I highly recommend Betterment if you haven't already heard of it. (Shameless referral link, but hey, you get $25 if you sign up. )

The UX is much more user friendly than the other three investment firms I had money in before. It's easy to set up short term or long term goals with auto-deposits, track investment progress, and see the distribution of how much money is invested in stocks vs bonds.

[[Edit]] Betterment is no longer giving people $25 for signing up with a referral link, but rather credits your account 30 days for free. Depending on how much money you deposit, that could be a better deal.

I'll also say that in 9 months since I first posted this comment, my dad switched from UBS after a year negative returns, paying three times more in fees, and noting that its website hadn't changed since the early 2000's. He loves Betterment. I also got my 18-year-old brother to start an account with the money he makes being a lifeguard.
