As someone who has spent the last two months of his life working on a EmberJS project, this post made my heart stop.
Your portfolio is amazing! You'll get a great job offer in no time. Good luck.
For me, my dream job is pretty simple and vague. Basically, all I need is:
1) To do something meaningful.
2) To do that meaningful task on my own time.
That's about it. Currently, I'm not working my dream job. I will, someday, though.
I wouldn't get too caught up in the negative vibe surrounding the design industry. It definitely will change. But you never know, it might be for the better. Thanks for the awesome topic.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who doesn't understand exactly what happened. Would someone who does mind expanding on the story more?

This is in stark contrast to the direction the web is going. Sorry, but Javascript in the client will never be toned down, users just expect way too much from websites nowadays. The browser has been an application runtime for a while now, it will never go back to being a document viewer.
I think the issue with slow news websites is more due to inefficient jQuery plugins and ad delivery networks, not Javascript.
