While true, App.net was the exact opposite of Ello in terms of the hip/new/cool quotient. App.net was to Twitter what Android is to Apple (imho) - a less-cool, if perhaps smarter alternative that appeals to a certain techy/geeky person
Ello has the possibility of answering the backlash against Facebook that has been building for years- and answering it in a hip cooler way rather than an intellectual "better on specs" way, which is what I feel App.net tried to do
All of my clients, and frankly most of my acquaintances know my Google Voice number, which rings my iPhone, and google voice allows me to set times that my phone won't ring, or lets me block specific numbers, or not ring for them, etc.
Only really close friends get the direct number to my iPhone.
Had so much hope for The Noun Project's potential, now it is literally a joke.
I've always felt that the style began with IA Writer, right around the time OS X introduced full-screen apps. IA writer already had a very minimal writing aesthetic, but when used in full-screen mode you were writing with nothing on the screen at all but text, which turned out to be a really impressive experience. It seemed to me to all evolve from that. Very curious to hear everyone else's answers though.
Care to share the easy alternative?
I ruined my poor MBP's trackpad cleaning it with Windex one time, so, not that anymore. Microfiber and rubbing alcohol. With the utmost of care and attention.
For someone who says "it doesn’t matter one fucking iota who is behind the authoring of this article" this article spends a whoooole lot of time and energy talking about... him.
The number of "I ..." sentences is incredible. Talk about the subject then. You are making these articles about yourself and your opinions in the way you write them.
I don't disagree with the original article but this is... ahh.
I'm a big fan of ONLY http://onlynylives.com/

Using this product made me have the following thought:
Can keyboard shortcuts be patented?
The only thing keeping me from using this consistently is the multitude of Illustrator keyboard shortcuts that are part of my muscle memory now. It's frustrating to have to find menu items / similar but different names for functionality I can do in one keypress in Illustrator. I know that's wrong but... it's also what's holding me back from moving beyond Adobe.
