Hi Mel. I work as a designer and software engineer at a startup. The best thing about a startup is that teams are close knit. You get quick critical feedback and I would take advantage of that.

For the design stage, it helps to create multiple incomplete designs that convey the difference in each approach, get feedback and iterate further on one design. I usually go through 5-6 iterations in a short time.

You will likely not have enough time to polish your designs and it’s okay. You can keep improving your designs, even after handing it off to the developers. Make sure you don’t become a bottleneck. Even your worst designs would likely be better than a non-designers take on it. The goal is to keep making progress.

Hi Nico. I like the concept of your website! But, right now the design and content does not draw me in to spend time on it. The landing page gives only a one line text preview of what each story is about, without connecting me to the founder or the product. I like the abstract at the top of each article. Perhaps you can use that in the front page listing.

I think the existing content can be structured (as a story?) for more emotional impact. Failure hurts, and is an experience that forces us to grow. The reader is someone who wants to learn from this experience, and is likely looking for a sticky message. The interview structure could work too, but lacks a rhythm.

As a first step, just add more pictures and screenshot to give readers some context. Right now I feel lost as to what product are you talking about. Also, use quotes to bring attention to important lessons or events.

Try ERPNext. It has a schools module that has/will have an LMS. It is also open source.

I agree. I find the color names like "Supernova", "Green Blue", "East Bay", etc. really helpful when you have similar colors lined up.

I use it primarily because Adobe products don't work with tiling managers (I use a laptop), and it is annoying to drag the window to use the eye dropper.

This is great! The first screen looks very impactful and I wish I could see this screen at random times of the day or week. The calendar needs further thought though. I wasn't able to use it. You might want to have a look at Moleskine Timepage for how you can make the calendar more usable.
