Looking forward to some more design inspiration borrowed from Dieter Rams incorporated into Apple store designs and new products...
The problem with all of these new TLD extensions is the fact they are too expensive. Just tried a few different domains for .design and seems they are taken. So seems the squatters have already padded out their portfolios.
Clever. There are a few grammatical errors (especially on the answers page), but overall a pretty clever way to apply for a job. Good luck.
Swearing is so cool.
Books won't teach you how to be a Javascript developer, let alone programmer. In my early days as a developer I bought programming books, but 99% of all I have learned has been through actual coding not reading. The part of your brain responsible for learning a new language, for example French. Do you learn a new language by reading a book or do you learn to speak French by actually speaking it?
Learning a language like Javascript is very similar to that of learning French. Maybe not entirely the same, but similar premise of needing to speak it to truly learn it. When you program you're speaking code through your fingers. I would suggest exploring Github for other developers code, pick it apart and learn what makes it work underneath.
If you want to learn online, I have found Udemy has some great Javascript oriented courses which are surprisingly decent and vary in price (there are always discounts).
Start coding.
Hi Ben,
Big fan of your work and Calibre. I might be able to come up with something for a proposal shortly. I am pretty busy, but have always wanted to speak at a conference (I am just in Brisbane, so not far to travel), so I'll see how time goes.
Would love to come to the conference regardless, but the $750 is a little too high for me considering I am getting married later this year and have a child on the way.
Either way, all the best mate. This looks great. Nice lineup so far as well.
Whenever I design, I don't use a set grid system. The responsive nature of the web means you can start out with a 1200px 12 column grid, knowing that columns will be dropped, etc. I tend to use a 1200px grid and then just do what looks the best for smaller screen sizes (stacking, hiding, dynamic font sizing).

This is absolutely perfect. KFC have hit a home run with this redesign, amazing work.
