    Sweet work!

I've been going back to this design over the course of like a year trying to figure out how that letter hover effect is built. I see it's using TweenLite – care to reveal any secrets or pointers :)?

  • Posted to I updated my front page. I'd gladly have feedback on the contrast!, Sep 14, 2015

The contrast of your name is definitely too low to pass any easy readability threshold, but I must say I quite like it that way, if your intention is to keep it subtle – the overall use of colours is definitely doing it for me! The light body text is just fine, and that's where the meat of your content is anyway.

On a different note, the two things that bugged me were your link hover states, and the fact that you've disabled text selection (or made the selected text background transparent) – this is entirely personal, but almost infuriating for me.. I suspect many people have a habit of tracing what they're reading by selecting text. Circling back to contrast from here, selecting text might well be used as a visual aid to increase readability, too.

According to Steve Souders, the attribute selector is pretty much the slowest you can go apart from pseudo selectors such as :hover. Unfortunate though, the proposed pattern looks pretty refreshing, but I wouldn't convert a large CSS codebase to use mainly slow selectors :(

Sass the preprocessor, SASS the syntax, no :) ?
