I totally agree with you.
But:
I'm quite okay with that – there's a lot of website "containing" the scroll and pushing the offset to a certain value.
In this example, it's just a way to make a smooth -parallax- scroll. Although I don't see any real "scroll hijacking" in this page : the scroll is the same. There's a scrollbar. The only thing that has been hijacked is the scroll speed, because of a easing function. That's all.
Here's an example of a bad scroll hijacking.
