This seems like it would matter if Apple was struggling financially, but they're still wildly profitable.
Agree. Also they're losing the optics of walking into an office and seeing a sea of Apple displays, something that I think really cements Apple's place in ppls minds.
I have a really hard time seeing the upside of getting out of the display business for them, unless displays were secretly bleeding them dry, which seems very unlikely, or they have some magical post-display future up their sleeve.
Here's another framing of the problem: what display will Jony Ive have on his desk in 5 years?
A day later and the app icon has seriously grown on me. It stands out on my home screen as so much more enticing than anything else. It's a downer, actually, to get into the app and not be in a ~ world of gradient ~. I want that app.
Okay, this is the first post by him that I'm into. The over-wrought (and often post-facto) rationalizations for logo/brand design is almost always so very ridiculous — if that was Eli's main issue I'd be a big fan of his. In this article he mostly sticks to that (it helps that he's attacking what I think is pretty mediocre work).
Although I have no idea where he comes down on the Google Ventures mark. I think he's okay with it because they didn't come out with an overdone explanation? But my sense of his aesthetic leanings suggest he'd be against it because of it's minimalism.
That's pretty great.
Now I want one for all 402 (!!!!!) of Curry's 3s.
I'm having a hard time grasping the change here, can someone clarify?
It sounds to me like IFTTT used to do all the API work in-house: they'd write the code to, essentially, translate from one service's API to another service's API. But now they're switching to a model where each service needs to implement this new IFTTT API.
Is that right?
If yes, it's a remarkably radical shift in how they do business — now you'd need an IFTTIFTTT service that can now do the 'shim' work that IFTTT used to do!
This seems like a great service, but there's no indication how they build their troll list. I think that information is critical for building trust in the product.
But: good to see folks working on this!
This is hilarious.
I got cards printed a few years ago and have been so happy I did. Having something to give someone after you meet is so helpful, and an opportunity to show off your particular style.
Whether you end up attaching it to your CV or leaving it after interviews, I'm not sure, but I can't recommend making a card for yourself enough.

I noticed that too! Glad I'm not crazy (or at least not in this instance)
