It lets people immediately get a feel for the product inside their toolset. Then, if they like it and want to use it for a serious project, they can pay to access the necessary weights.
Your original portfolio post + the overview of how you got hired at DO were some of the things that made me want to be a part of this community.

Very high level of interest in this. I wold even pay for it.
The gradient background that incrementally changes its color as you scroll but in a very unobtrusive way is terrific.
I took a peek at your css but couldn't tell how it works.
Throwing a full screen modal asking me for Facebook or email information is incredibly user hostile.
But:
The homepage never mentions Oykun
The about page clearly states that it's a collection of things
The site title is "minimalstuff.com" which is pretty self explanatory
Oykun promotes it as a curated list of other people's work.
There's both no intention to be misleading, no clear misleading things like having his name on the home page, and deliberate effort to market it as a curated list.
