  • Posted to Big Sur Icons, Jan 14, 2021

    Hi everyone,

I'm sharing my most recent side-project here. I made a set of new app icons for Big Sur after getting an M1 Mac and finding a lot of third party ones out of date.

I've also been using Pixelmator Pro for these—and have to say—it's an excellent tool. For the next few icons I need to create some 3D models so they might take time.

Let me know of your thoughts or requests below.

  • Posted to How do you organize and maintain master files across your design team?, Jun 25, 2020

Some thoughts on what's worked for me and my team. I'd welcome others to add their perspectives as well. Added numbers and bold so it's easier to read and discuss.

    1. Figma – You're using Figma, that's a great start.
    2. Have one Figma file for each release – You want multiple files because you might be designing version 26 while version 25 is being implemented by engineering and some stuff that won't make it to version 26 now needs to go into version 27. Version control doesn't replace the need for this.
    3. Assign a single designer to be the owner each release master file – This doesn't mean they do all the work for that release, just means they make sure the master is in good shape.
    4. Keep your component library in a separate file – Each thing in their right place.
    5. Keep all the day-to-day work in separate files – Those are for exploration, discovery, testing and prototyping. Let those be messy.
    6. Pin the active masters to the Figma project – So they're easy to find.
    7. Keep only the latest/final designs in the master files – This is where version control becomes handy, as you can see how the master has changed over time. But don't put exploration or design that won't ship in the master.
    8. Include collateral material – Things such as app icons, screenshots, marketing artwork and so on.
    9. Break down the master into different pages – So it's easy to find everything.

  • Posted to Localizing Currency: the design details of localization for iOS and web, Mar 12, 2020

    Hi everyone!

I just published a new blog post about the localization (US spelling!) of my iOS app, Currency. It goes into the details and workflow of localizing the app, website and promo material.

Happy to hear some thoughts, feedback, or corrections to mistakes including spelling mistakes!

  • Posted to New Clock for Mac: Subclock, in reply to Leon D , Mar 09, 2020

Installed the free version and love it! There are a couple of things I wanted to point out:

    1. I'd recommend using San Francisco instead of Helvetica as the default text style, as that's the OS system font
    2. I'd shift the text a point or two up as it sits too low on the bar. See this screenshot of the baseline in the standard clock text versus SubClock's: i.imgur.com/LBYK8Gd.png

As a final tip, when using San Fransisco make sure you enable lining figures!

I love that you've taken this to the next level. This is what the internet should be about :) Thank you Claude, I'll add a link to it on the Sheet

    Hi all,

I started putting together this Google Sheet with design conferences around the world. Handy for those that are planning to attend or speak at a conference next year and are looking to make a personal trip out of it as well.

Add your comments (in the sheet) if you spot any mistakes or if there's a conference missing.

    Nuno :)

  • Posted to Sketch 47 with Libraries —Sync and use Symbols across documents, in reply to T. F. , Oct 10, 2017

I've been using the beta for a couple of months. Give these a try:

If you copy a library symbol to another file that also uses that library, it won't duplicate the symbol. It will just create a reference to the symbol from that library. But if you copy an instance of a symbol from one sketch file to another, it will always create a new symbol.

If your library file is renamed or removed and you can't edit the symbols, all you have to do is add the library again in the Libraries tab in Preferences. That should get your symbols working again as normal.

Thanks Sebastian. I scanned my own handwriting for those titles.

The original idea was to scan post-its with the challenges and goals written on them. When we design products we all define and vote on those challenges in post-its, so it felt like the most familiar way to present them. But the post-its looked terrible on the design, so I scanned just the text.
