Based on our datacenter space, architecture, processes, and leveraging existing graphics libraries at our scale it actually is quite cost effective. You can see our data center manager defend all design decisions against a hoard of upset apple hating hacker news readers here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9500301 look for the handle "skuhn".

Hey Beth! I used a Lumix DMC GM1, but opted for a 25mm f/1.4 Leica D Summilux Lens instead of the stock one. For the macro Shots, I used a Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens (needs a tripod though because lack of image stabilization in lens). I also had another Lumix Pancake Wide angle lens. I am a huge fan of prime lenses for their speed and lack of distortion.

For this set, I shot over 2,000 pics and used adobe Lightroom for the first time ever, which actually saved my life for organization and constant need of re–editing.

There is a new Leica 15mm Wide Angle Summilux f/1.7 available and I am so tempted to pick it up though I have already gone super lens crazy as of late.

Side note, my iPhone camera broke somehow and now I totally use the local wifi connectivity of my GM1 to send pics over to my phone to instagram them.

No offense taken, the comment made my day. :) Cheers.

Thanks, Beth! To be honest, the whole photo set was just us wanting to show off the work going into our data center. We only have a handful of employees and we take a lot of pride in what we are building, especially since most of what our product/service is, is completely invisible.

Plus, I just picked up a new micro 4/3 lens mount camera and was looking for any excuse to take photos of stuff and sit in photoshop for a few days, away from UI layouts.

Exposure.co is a beautiful site that makes use of us as well, and I thought it would be interesting to tell the story of something with something that runs on it (geek moment). Layervault (also super awesome, btw) makes use of our service and was kind enough to give us a nod.

It does come off as an ad, and I guess that is its function now. But the post was written by the Founder (We've been buds now for 10+ years), our Customer Support Specialist , our SRE who built and designed the space, and photographed & edited by me — with a lot of care and attention to detail. That means close to half of our company had a hand in it ... not just marketing people and copy writers and some photographer we hired.
