Yes! I find that I can go through a couple of iterations and finally land on the design that I like while having a working prototype underneath. It's weird (to me) creating a mockup of a design, implementing it as a prototype, not liking it, and then going back to the mockup.

I need to click around on a design to active problem solve.

The thing is we need more designers sharing their work ALONG with their thought process behind it all. Designers also need to be promoting the shit out of these writings so other people can gather inspiration, provide feedback, and grow further.

You should be giving props to the man for taking the time to even walkthrough what he did instead of blasting him down unless you really just want a design community that only has links when a new version is Sketch is released.

Good to know I'm not alone in this. It just seems so much easier to dive right in and make changes as you go along. Of course for all I know I'm only working at 10% capacity but I've programmed my brain to work like this over the years.

I'm going to too my own horn here and promote Makers Cabin (https://makerscabin.com). I just relaunched it today with the idea that all of the things I like in the different communities all appear on separate sites.

So I figured I would create the IKEA of maker communities. I still have a bit to go and there are a ton of things I still want to add (questions, news, gallery, code snippets, social network, etc.).

I know it will take some time before it gets to the size of any of the other recommended communities but with how many of us are more generalists than just designers or developers I figured it would be cool to have a place that catered to all our needs.

With that being said there aren't many places you can go to to find great design discussions anymore. Back in the early 2000s you had awesome sites like k10k (http://www.cubancouncil.com/work/project/kaliber-10000) or a couple of the other ones.

It just seems like once a designer gets enough clients/work they stop participating online and focus on making the paper. I don't blame them, it just sucks.

dribbble had the potential to be a place for great design discussion but that pretty much ended the 2nd week it left beta.

As Saijo points out reddit can be decent but it completely depends on the topic and how ornery the crowd is.

What always confused me is the different terminology used for what to call these:

I'm actually working on a course now that covers more than just learning how to code as just learning how to code in a silo doesn't get you far. I decided to take the holistic approach and cover everything from beginning to end so you can see the big picture.

Seriously when the fuck did designers become so powerless? There isn't a god-like design director sitting over your shoulder telling you not to push the boundaries of flat design (or whatever trend). The people praising articles like this are just confirming that they want somebody else to take the reigns and create another new trend for them to follow.

Designers are some of the most powerful people on this planet. We directly control how people interact with almost everything in their lives and now a design trend comes around and its ruining our creations?

We like to brag about creativity and being different and how the world should value us, but yet we follow trends blindly and then all of a sudden it's the trend's fault we put ourselves in this situation?
