Italic fonts in a typeface family take a more handwritten-like approach to the letter forms. Characters such as the a, which is typically double-storied are changed to look like their written figures. More on this here:

Oh my god yes this is perfect. Every time design assets for this game are posted here I get more and more respect for this team.
I would argue anything less than support in 90% of users browsers is poor. I don't use rem's for anything yet as they are only at ~90% supported.

There were a lot of gems like this on Adobe's website before they refreshed the site recently. Lot's of product pages for relics that went by the wayside in acquisitions.
I've been planning a San Francisco >> London move, and switching back to all the US government websites for legal research just makes me depressed. Makes me proud to be British.

I don't know when Designer News turned into a place to make fun of each other. I have my job today because I gave myself stupid projects like this, and taught myself JavaScript doing it.

I personally think this is hilarious, and all un-responsive websites should have this.
