Jacob is great at creating narratives and really finding the points that catalyzed software movements. Another person who creates wonderful narratives, and sometimes even tries to re-enact them, is Paul Ford. He's more famous now for his What is Code story on Bloomberg Businessweek, and his Twitter account is almost a constant stream of "look at this crazy old software thing we did". Worth perusing.
I've always been coming back to Alpine, a terminal mail client. So far it's the only email client that hasn't crashed, failed to send email, etc. The learning curve is moderate, but it's been out for so long that there are tons of posts and documentation.
I got this the other day! I was pleasantly surprised. I only noticed because I was expecting red underlines for the search types (used to looking for the red), then I realized it was an entirely new design. I hope they keep most of it.
Patiently waiting on Need for Speed: Underground.
It could also use a CDN or a caching layer. Can't seem to get a response from the server :(
The article kinda took a strange turn with defining "Product Manager", and loosely tied that into it's original premise. Then it went on some weak, disconnected tangents and arrived at what seems to be a meek attempt at "solving the problem," and a disapproving jab at Apple.
This is unfortunate since Paul's writing is usually spot on :(
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
I use Mailbox when it's not crashing, but I prefer Alpine (or just pine) since I can get my usenet lists alongside my emails. Thunderbird was ok, but it's really just good for a trip down memory lane at this point.
Ahh wonderful! Skeleton was my first love and no other css file could ever replace it. Super stoked for this update! Good job, Dave!
