  • Posted to Prototyping with animation with HTML5 export?, Jan 16, 2020

It's a bit of an older tool but Axure would work for this - it exports raw HTML of prototypes which you can self-host.

I have a very similar workflow - really helps to speak the same language on revisions.

I use a Chrome extension called Stylish. Create a new style, write some CSS which can persist for editing later.

    Really like this site.

Love the watercolor palette + the hand drawn style which they're going for.

The fact that each of the project pages has it's own "style" (similar-esque to Stripe), while also keeping the pages on-brand is also effective at differentiating the products.

  • Posted to Is working for an agency really so awful?, Dec 25, 2016

Agencies aren't so bad - they CAN really be a place for mentorship and learning best practices, especially for younger designers (as with all places - depending on the people of course).

Most people's issue with agencies is that it comes down to unit economics. The bigger the agency, the more plates are in the air, and the more tuned in to really bleeding the $-to-productivity out of their designers they need to be. Paying right at or just below market value, expecting long weekend hours, "but our culture is excellent" is what has given a lot of agencies a bad name.

Smaller craft agencies in your cities may be a lot better in that regard - and may be a little better fit for what you're looking for - an interesting challenge. It's still VERY difficult work, but I feel like there's a different feeling to working at those speeds and helping to grow a team and company - as opposed to clearing contracts as efficiently as possible for a larger agency.

There's always middle-grounds but it all comes down to 1. who works there? and 2. how does the company think about their employees (...which may not be immediately apparent during the interviewing stages, but which you can look for tells based on the person interviewing you).

    Who cares?

This is for a single cover too - it's not like it's an EP cover.

For EP covers you may see something like "use artist XYZ cause I love their cover work - or use Agency X since they have a great track record." The artist may actually care for those as well - I can definitely see Kanye telling his designer "this broken grid thing seems like a thing - use that for the cover" - and "NO. It's too tasteful God dammit, It needs more butt."

For singles though - it's literally a manager bringing the artist 20 comps from some internal design team that's paid peanuts and has to kick out 10 album covers a week for 4 different genres - and going "this one ok?" and it gets rubberstamped.

  • Posted to Instagram Masks - How hard is it to use this in Photoshop? I am an eager beginner :), Dec 20, 2016

They look fairly easy to use - from the sounds of it, it'll be a smart object.

If so - double click it, replace with you image - the image will be applied w/ your mask.

Really like this article - actually quoted Sophie in an update to one of my own older articles on using excessive animations. Main point I started with was that most people find that Android is "faster" if you speed up the page animations.

I'll leave this here if anyone's interested:
