Hey Kyle, the process for getting project.yaml working properly is documented here.

If you don’t follow that carefully, then there’s a good chance things aren’t going to work as expected. Luckily you can re-perform those steps at any time if you want to give it a fresh start.

  • Posted to How Wildbit chose Craft CMS to run multiple products websites, in reply to Jansen Tolle , Nov 03, 2016

Hey Jansen, Brandon from Craft CMS here. Thanks for the feedback! Even if Craft were significantly cheaper or free, it would probably not be the right choice for most small budget projects. Its feature set is optimized for bespoke web design/dev projects, which tend to have a high enough budget that a $300 CMS licensing fee doesn’t make a huge dent. (And when it does, but Craft is still the right choice, we’re happy to offer a discount.)

Maybe in the future it will make sense for us to make a version of Craft that targets lower-budget projects, but that will be more about feature optimization than price. It seems like that end of the market is already well-served by WordPress and Squarespace though, so there’s not much motivation to take it that direction right now. We’ll see!
