Rhys as a reminder a shovel wasn't designed to hammer a nail :)
Are you saying that apps that are focused are better than apps that do more?
If the shovel easily converted to a hammer and back to a shovel as needed would it not make it a better or as good as just a hammer?
Good idea and entertaining video but why not just do all this using Google My Maps feature?
I've been mapping places in categories and directions using My Maps for 2 years now and most recently using iOS Google Maps native app for it. Maybe I'm missing something here?
Thanks Ryan :)
We've just launched a new online magazine at Format — I'd love for you to check it out.
Sharing the stories of our community and the creative people we're inspired by, you'll find features including designers Tina Roth Eisenberg (Swissmiss), Leta Sobierajski, Karan Singh, Charlotte Heal, Adam J. Kurtz and more.
Let us know what you think in the comments below.
And if you're interested in being featured, drop us a line with a link to your portfolio or a few images at: magazine@format.com.
Congratulations to T&L for the 12 years of success.
Format (Toronto) is also hiring UI/Interactive Designers http://format.com/jobs/interface-design as well as developers http://format.com/jobs/.
You can modify the themes available on Format. We don't have a feature that would allow you to build a theme from scratch.
If you try to try both apps it shouldn't take too long until you see a noticeable difference between the two.
Blake thanks for the kinds words. You are not being rude at all. We were first to the market when nothing else existed.
Format (previously 4ormat) was started part time in 2008 when nothing else existed, we launched in 2010.
We've been around publicly for 4 years and have tens of thousands of creative professionals across 125 countries using Format.

Have feedback?
That makes sense and I congratulate you on your new app. In no way do I want you to think that my comment is questioning the quality of your app. As a product owner & designer myself I believe its very important to help others by sharing a different and honest perspective. Especially if it helps owners of the product realize earlier that their investment of time and money is a high risk investment. I've been there myself and would have hoped someone would have asked me tough questions early in the product life cycle. I know that if someone gave me honest feedback early it might have saved me time and money over the years.
As for Google's Map App: I personally find the UX of Google Maps just enough to fit my needs when traveling, this applies to me only as I haven't done research to learn about others.
Best of luck with the app, it looks great! I will be sure to try it sometime.
