I made this mistake once in my career. I had always worked primarily as a designer but did a good amount of dev as well. I took a job as a front-end developer at a big agency and regretted it almost immediately. By the time the work got to me it was too late for me to influence it and I had to build shitty designs that I didn't agree with. I was there for 4 months and never made that mistake again.

Join as a product designer. It's much easier to blur the lines when you're further up the funnel. In fact most teams will welcome your technical skills. Happy to chat more about my experience if you want to reach out via email.
