+1 for United Designers, Good group of people with more of a community centered around design as opposed to design community vibe.

As my company's only in-house designer I definitely feel like this slack provides a good sense of support from when I want to vent about a client to when I need feedback on one of my designs.

You should check out https://Uniteddesigners.chat then. It's mostly chit-chat and design related conversation from designers who freelance or don't otherwise have a design team in their company, and I've seen some solid feedback occur without the shameless self promotion that you see in other slacks and forums.

Most of the design slacks I'm a part of are massive and will have someone ask a question then disappear and not stick around for the answer, I hardly ever see that happen in United Designers.

This is a great community, as they are very active (to the point I had to mute some of the channels or just ignore it until a break.) and provide solid feedback on the designs I've posted.

I still use sparrow because even with the unfixed bugs it's still 99% better than any other mail app I've got on my laptop :\

I imagine sunrise will be the same as I'd prefer to not download outlook.

5% equity is very high for a non-founder designer, but often designers will be let go when times get lean and times will get lean. Make sure you're paid in addition to the equity.

Working as the sole designer at a startup for the last 8 months has taught me the value of having a mentor, and the difficulty of finding one. Good luck on your quest, I fear I'm just going to have to find a position at a more established company to find the mentor I seek.
