I thought Snapchat's UX was deliberately user hostile to keep their users under 30! It's designed to be "bad".
Affinity Designer is worth checking out – it has a free trial but you'll have to purchase a license eventually. Been using it for a few weeks and starting to prefer it to Adobe Illustrator for vector work.
Always surprised that seemingly no one has heard of BetterSnapTool… literally one of the first things I install on a new mac (after Alfred!)
Periscope should probably now try and become an aggregator of live - allowing you to go live on Facebook, Instagram, etc. from one app.

Also Affinity's Adobe alternatives: Designer (Illustrator) and Photo (Photoshop) are worth checking out and available on iPad—yet to hear of any big design teams using these over Adobe's versions though.
