Very good advice. I always felt that everyone working closely with developers needs to have a basic understanding of how to write code. Take a free class at codecademy or Khan Academy and learn the basics of coding. Even a little bit of knowledge will make working with developers so much easier as it helps you to understand their pain points. Obviously it would be cool if the developer would also develop some basic design skills :)
Great post and thank you for sharing your experiences. Your advice on customer support is great. How much time customer support for a low price product can take is often overlooked. When you say that Themeforest pays 70% to exclusive providers and you also sell themes on other platforms, do you create slight variations of your themes? Or are the other platforms performing so well, that you just forgo the exclusivity and higher payout? I guess this is similar to Amazon paying you higher margins on Kindle books, if you use them exclusively. In Amazon's case, though, I have found that all other platforms combined are still meaningless, thus going exclusive makes sense. Is the same true for ThemeForest?
It would be great if FB would not only call for Flash to die but also allow HTML 5 interactivity in the FB timeline. For now, the only way to get interactive elements into the timeline is by using Flash, thus keeping all iOS users locked out and providing a bad user experience.
Good list, but most themes focus on woocommerce.. do you know of any theme which works well with WP-Ecommerce from wpmudev.org?
so totally wonderful and different.
I guess you could also call this a screen calibration test :) My screen was so badly calibrated that all the green boxes looked alike
We use Quickbooks Online at Riddle. But only really useable if you are located in the US.
As I really like your share button generator, I hunted you on Product Hunt - http://www.producthunt.com/posts/responsible-social-sharing-buttons - hope you make it to the front page..
Great app. So easy to use and beats installing complicated and heavily overloaded like button apps such as AddThis. Thank you for creating and sharing :).

Thank you for this post Johannes. I have been wondering about the very same thing. I am supposedly number 11,036 on their list and I also suspect that the $96 I invested are lost. I never thought they could deliver on their promise tbh, so I invested the money to satisfy my curiosity with a slight shimmer of hope that they would pull a magic rabbit out of their hat and give us an AI to design beautiful websites in minutes. Anyone here with a lower member number?
