Cool besides the scroll hijack...
This is a fun challenge in general. I think we should do more of these.
I find this redesign odd. It does not seem to be data driven. It seems to be more anecdotal, and I actually think it looks like a step backward in app design standards/trends but maybe going against the grain is good.
Nonetheless not that much data so... it comes off as more of a "we were bored" type of deal.

I don't really get it, I've been using OSX since the switch to intel and nothing has been hard to move on to. What are the actual issues?

Once content expands on top, it pushes the scrollable content to not be able to view everything at once anymore. The only way to fix this is to code in a hard offset which sucks and is not maintainable in a large application.
Is the only solution flexbox?
