Wow, the comments are so f*up here, I did not think people would so easily forget the golden age of basically aqua styled icons, that folks if you actually remember started back in the 2000s, in MacOS and on aqua-soft (it's an old forum and there were similar sites, and other forums for customization and overall design of icons and skins) you would have pioneers in the style that went to work at apple, that imagined new shapes and ways that we can tell a tale and incorporate it into an icon, there is so much history here it's kinda insane to just throw it away cuz it's not trendy, call 'em what you want but that was the thing you would look at most of the time on your devices and websites. You can't deny that and just call them "illustrations", don't be a trendy cunt :)

Absolutely, I remember at my brief time at Sourcebits I heard stories from the developers or the general people that work in India have a lot of restrictions, this could happen to companies that have like 300+ employees, but in your case it's just obstruction of personal needs etc. In Serbia you have basically all the freedom you want, especially if you have a good team involved then you can have as much freedom as long as the job is done.

In your case sadly the only thing you could try is a mini strike or an agreement with your co-workers to persuade the higher-ups.

Or just find another place to work :<

Good points all around, it's just that in this time of age where we have just content driven sites and products, social sites that are bare bone so that they work properly, the sad thing is if there is no interesting content you loose interest and just walk away from a product. With over the top graphics and crazy code we had the pretty factor, now it's all kinda lost in shapes and text. Not trying to be the harbinger of doom or anything, I get the function over form ideology but can't we do both? :)

My clients would pay a lot of money for phone bills if that was the case hah, but there was this one time a client called me in the middle of the night being like:" Wait, where do you live again? "

If you are in the states I don't see a wrong in that, clients might react better if their worker is like call if you need me bla, bla. It's just a trick to make some clients just feel better about you.

Would be good to know that at some point in time, developers and designers will come up with a new style of approach to flat icons, back in the days icons were flat in a way, then we invented perspective in the format, who knows what's gonna happen.

Also funny how a lot icons here look better for ios7 :/

The sad truth about this is that there are actual clients that would appreciate "portfolios" like this, and the people with these types of "portfolios" get the jobs and charge them in tacos and burritos.

  • Posted to Ask: How Many Have Mentors?, May 29, 2013

If you can count the people that you look up to, as sort of secret mentors in a way, then plenty. Thou I really think that mentorship is dead in a way, because of the growing industry therefore old tricks, and advices become unusable.
