So... is there a community out there?

Or to be more specific, can anyone think of an anonymous designer forum/site/community (not Slack)?

  • Posted to Ask DN: Which web host do you use?, in reply to Paul Jarvis , Jun 20, 2014

I had heard nothing but good things about DO however my one droplet/site goes down on a weekly basis, losing it's db connection. I'll google it again but I recall trying to host more than one wordpress site per droplet was not easy to set up and meant the loss of post-title based urls. That said I may continue to use it for one-off non-php/mysql sites (want to try running a ghost site).

Update: found the solution for enabling pretty links when setting up multiple sites. Will do a test run, however it doesn't solve the random weekly database connection issues.

Only just noticed David posted my side-project on here :)

I thought I'd addressed the problem of making sure every store gets mapped. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll see if I can put in a fix soon.

  • Posted to Google acquhires this designer cofounder's company, but the designer was left out of the deal., Apr 03, 2014

I'm pretty dense and don't know what company this is about :(

It is hard to pass judgement without the quality of design work, however that shouldn't matter. As design professionals we know the frustration we feel when needing to justify that our contributions are equal to any other team member. Designers are problem solvers just as developers are, and are vital to making a great product. And the contributions this designer added to her startup were varied and necessary.

Treehouse to learn (once I finally made it through all the tutorials, building a version of each app as I went), plus a whole lot of blogs, tutorials and StackOverflow for various answers. Seems like I should go through my bookmarks and post a resources guide.

Between 5 years and a few weeks ;) Been attempting to learn Xcode for years, and even more so in the last year while I had my Treehouse membership, but I finally focused and built this app on the side in around 6-8 weeks. (Gathering and curating data to fill the app has taken longer)

Maybe he had requested his removal so the photos were a multiple of 4 and to keep the grid balanced?

I've been using Dreamhost for many years running multiple sites from my account, but I've found lately their uptime has been terrible. They've had hardware issues and not communicated to clients effectively or made much effort to resolve the effort or rebate me for the downtime (which has been nearly 2 weeks). I'm reading the comments because I'm likely to switch to another host.
