Interesting concept.
I like the overall feel of the site however aside from the ux issues there are some also some spacing and alignment issues that i feel make some of the pages hard to read, not impossible but i feel that my eyes have to work a bit harder to read the content, not a relaxed reading experience.
Again a nice concept, but i feel that this is a definite step backward from their last site.
This seems to work alight, think svg would be the best solution for this at this point in time.
Maybe a bit late to the party on this one but i just thought i would mention Concrete5, it's an open source cms that offers in context editing and easy customization/themeing.
Have used it on countless projects where the client updates content by themselves and can say that they find it very intuitive.
If u need any help getting started with it don't hesitate to get in touch @JavanGriffiths

If you cleaned it up enough in photoshop you could take it into illustrator and live trace it as Ege suggested depending on what level of detail you want, you'll get better results if the image that it is trying to trace is larger also.
Hope this helps.
I agree, i feel like this all the time. I especially wish services like Treehouse and other online training services offered one off costs for individual courses or tracks. I think it feels like you are paying for a whole lot of stuff that you probably won't learn if you are just after a good set of lessons on a particular topic.

Agree that is has lost its soul a bit now, i felt the previous style was very warm and inviting and unique, i think the current style is a bit sterile and feels too much like many other tech sites.
