Yep, I'm aware. I'm always open to holes be poked in my ideas and beliefs. I can't say I have ever used Dribbble on mobile, though.
I actually like the overall vibe. I do wish there were a dark mode. I don't mind having to hover over the images...I feel like this de-clutters some of the UI; if I want more context around an image, I can hover or click into it.
They removed the "Recent" filter many months ago, got called out on DN, and reverted it. Dribbble is great for designers with a large following. Dribbble is awful for designers who have recently signed up, unless they're 1) super lucky or 2) a design prodigy.
At this point it's absolutely useless to post things to Dribbble, because unless you have enough followers to push you to the popular page, you're screwed. They know this. And if they act surprised, they're lying.
I wonder how much money was spent on that logo.
Sketch is a great design tool. Photoshop, however, was never an ideal tool for design. Photoshop is fantastic when you need to manipulate photos, but people didn't use it because of how amazing it was for designing things; they used it because it was one of the few tools that existed that allowed designers to complete their tasks.
I don't think Sketch is going anywhere. I do think the market will become increasingly more competitive with the amount of tools that are surfacing. I'm not a huge fan of Adobe XD, but Figma is awesome. My opinion: don't assume that Sketch is going to fall off the map simply because they're losing some of the market.
Hey Elliot, really love the concept! One suggestion I have is to potentially tie a dollar value to what's being offered. For example, one ad I see says that I'll get 50 free meals...but what does that equal out to in dollar value? An estimated value would be great.
The example you provided isn't spec work. Perhaps the person who responded simply misread your example. I've applied for positions in the past that either encouraged or required applicants to record a video explaining why they were interested in the position and how they could add value. Sometimes they have asked for the video in the actual application and other times it comes a little further in the process, just after an initial phone screening.
Is it inconvenient and awkward? Sure, it can be. Am I being asked to do something ridiculous? Not at all. It may not necessarily be the right approach to hiring -- I don't have the answer to that -- but, in my opinion, it's perfectly acceptable.
