Got it! That totally makes sense.
Thanks for your help Christoph!
Thanks Brian. I've added a "sometimes" option for the second question. What would you consider a small project to be?
Sorry about that Tristam, I thought the last step was confidential. I'll certainly change that now :)
This December, CreativeMornings is curating awesome gifs, made by artists in our communities, to celebrate the rewarding and challenging moments of working with clients.
Another really neat site doing something similar is http://littlebigdetails.com/
A co-worker of mine wrote up about how we use Slack at our company. After using Skype, Hangouts and countless email threads for team / client communication we tried Slack and haven't turned back since. In all honesty, like any other groups chat platform is can get quite noisy very fast; which is where channels come in very handy.
We use Slack channels for team wide announcements, non-work topics, article sharing and stupid gifs, with group chats for projects and work related conversations. Having the right channels setup will help channel the noise, allowing each person to only subscribe to conversations that they might care about and not having thousands of notifications every day.
The channels we typically use are: - unimportant-things
general
sports
sketch tips
music
prototyping-tools
podcasts
gaming

I know this is not a new video but it's extremely inspiring and educational for any creative working with clients. Mike Monteiro, founder of Mule Design, shares real-life teaching about the realities and struggles with poor communication and the importance of clear client contracts.
I've been using designers.mx for over a year so obviously I'm quite sad to see it go. I wish I had known about this earlier too. Oh well, great product and exciting future for their team. Looking forward to see what they're up to next.

The best tool for Designer / Developer collaboration is communication and getting Developers involved in your Design process from the beginning.
The more involved your developers are with your process the more they understand the how and why to build whatever you're designing. I've found that no amount of documentation or tools act as a better handoff tool than having your developers truly present during the design process.
In doing so you're giving developers a change to give their input and highlight potential challenges early on before you may waste a lot of effort on pipe dream solutions. It will also help your developers build empathy into why you think what you're designing is important and provided a better place for collaboration to happen in the project.
