It changes from year to year. I've no idea if they surface particular blogs over others, but 2013/14 felt very big in rap.

I think it's more promotional than appeasement. There seems to be a genuine interest in new app versions, website launches and such coming from news sites.

Here's a Slate article that mentions it, and there's mentions on Stack Exchange of it being popular in upper-class boarding schools.

"Soccer" was English slang, however it originates from the upper class. It was used to distance themselves from the working class who would play "Football". So it's sort of a derogatory/divisive word.

As a result it never really caught on, and people don't like the word to this day, even if they aren't aware of the history.

Some companies with only one designer give them the title Art Director, Creative Director, etc.
