Bought a floor sample of this at ICFF 2013. It's absolutely beautiful and the counterweight mechanism is very delicately balanced.
Thank you very much for your compliment. The IFTTT Design Team is small (3 people!) but we work very closely with our talented developers. They work their asses off to make the product's as polished as they are.
Thanks! Let us know what you think.
Good question! This was a pretty contentious decision early on the in the product cycle. We originally started with the idea of a single app that ran all three of these functions. We learned that asking users to decide on a Recipe and tool - from within the same interface - was a little too confusing.
It also allowed us to simplify the product for users who might not want all 3 types all the time. We realized that not all 3 types appeal to all users, so the more we could break it up, the more lightweight of an experience we could provide for the type someone does want.
Thanks for posting this! We're thrilled this made Designer News today. I hope everyone enjoys Note, Button, and Camera!
Amazing stuff. I could be mistaken, but it looks like a couple of these were taken at Point du Hoc in Normandy. Anyone interested in WWII should read about the soldiers who climbed those cliffs to take a German battery on D-Day.
Realistic or not, this also makes for great art. We should remember to not focus on practicality so much as ambition. I remember viewing Erik's project while a freshman at RISD. I love how it made a statement at the same time as standing on it's own as a product.
Anyways, it's cool to see this oldie but goldie hitting DN.

Always great stuff coming out of you. You should definitely post on DN more often.
