Good grief, $9.99 a month for a link aggregator is optimistic.
Love Atipo fonts. Calendas Plus, especially the italic, is one of the nicest serif fonts around.
The old design was looking dated, but the new design is rather generic. Nothing to distinguish it from 90% of the work there. Colours make it look like it's part of InVision.
Still doesn't look like it's gone beyond a place to post the same old trends – over-designed form items and meaningless circular graphs with numbers in the middle (counted six on the homepage alone).
The main one is if you don't pay the money you can't access your files, especially if moving from a team account to a free personal one.
In addition, the only way you can get your designs out of Figma are as a flattened vector or bitmap, or a .fig file, which is compatible with precisely nothing else.
At least with Sketch, if you stop paying the licence you can keep using whatever version you ended up on, and Adobe's file formats are widely supported by other vendors.
And as Figma has taken on so much funding, there's no guarantee that they'll be around in their current form for long. VCs want their payday, and that will either result in a sale, or an IPO with intense pressure to increase revenue.
What a devastating list of questions. Good job.
I would also add:
Oof. The thought of going back to PS for UI design gives me the shakes.
If they kept the black band but dropped the letters it would look really good. BMW has enough brand recognition to not need spelling out, and the flat design just highlights how awkwardly placed the letters really are.
Other than the fact that this site has pretty much been abandoned by the owners for years, is that there actually isn't that much good content about.
Most new articles are either content marketing from a company like InVision, or low-quality 'What I learned in my first 3 days as a UX designer' style posts.
There's only a few people/companies producing high-quality content, maybe because it's hard, and people with the talent to do it tend to be busy.
I wonder if the design/UX field is large enough to support a site like this?

I don't want to be cynical about someone else's project, especially when I don't want people to be cynical about mine, but the value it provides better be startlingly good for that amount, especially without a free trial.
The monthly subscription is more than Netflix and almost the same as a Sketch or Figma licence - and the value I get from those is immense.
