But they're also famous for so much more! One of the more exciting agencies to follow these days.
They designed Medium.com, but the process documentation is awesome: http://www.teehanlax.com/story/medium/
Hyperlapse project is super cool: http://labs.teehanlax.com/project/hyperlapse
I think this is a really cool ideas - mostly b/c I've wanted to build this in the past too :) Nicely executed! My approach was more of a portfolio/resume type builder based on Dribbble shots. I like that yours pulls in content from multiple services though and packages it all very nicely.
I can definitely see the confusion.
We really aimed this to be consumed only on mobile devices, so it's not made to scale up well to desktop screens.
Ideally, it will become a native app and the website itself will be more of a marketing site than the current web app. Just needed a quick version as a workable proof of concept.
Data. A photo itself has some value to it. But knowing the data that interconnects people and photos is pretty valuable to a lot of folks. This has Facebook written all over it :)
I'm confused. We're not encouraging copying photos. We're talking about a photo delivery mechanism that's driven by demand.
The deliverable won't be a professional, post processed, RAW photo. But the requestor also won't be paying a huge sticker price, will get fast turnaround times and ideally will get a photo custom-tailored to their request.
Also keep in mind that mobile phones will get better post-processing tools in coming years as well as much better cameras. Positioning for the future.
Awesome demo. Loved the 3d transforms.
Correction - not NYTimes, WSJ: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324392804578358730990873670.html
Kind of doubt he's full-time @ Facebook. There was recently a great article on him (in NYTimes I think). The man has introduced some great patterns that we use daily and implement in our own apps. I also love that he didn't use much (or any?) of UIKit in his Letterpress app - choosing instead to write his own UI layer that was more efficient for his needs. That's the kind of design/engineering nerd I strive to be!
Having said that - my guess is that he's doing just what the tweet says: "helping out." Hopefully, this is just a consulting gig.

Love this. Very fun experimental UI. I don't keep enough events on my iPhone calendar to use this. If you're building, build it in Xcode 4 (not 5 if you're have a beta).
