  • Posted to Does anyone here design with an Apple Magic Mouse 2?, Sep 23, 2020

I have the same issue with the 1st-gen Magic Mouse. It gets pretty jiggy when trying to position items when I'm trying to be slow and precise.

    This won't help you, but…

I bought a Logitech MX Master 3 and it fixes that accuracy issue, but I really missed the omni-directional scrolling. It has a thumb reachable nub for horizontal scrolling, but it was a bit inconsistent.

I returned that and got Apple's Magic Trackpad, thinking this will give accuracy, movement and gestures, but the hand resting position just didn't work for me. I returned it.

Back on the Magic Mouse and accepting the jigging, which sucks, but don't see any alternative. Planning to upgrade to the 2nd-gen so I stop burning through batteries.

Clever. All the graphics really convey how the app can work for folks.

I like that the Instagram shows different art styles. It would be nice to see a few of those on the landing page.

Congratulations on the launch, Laurie. Saved a link to check this out when I next look to create a gantt chart.

One little niggle, you say "Create Beautiful Gantt Charts", but the only way to see actual screenshots of these charts is on Product Hunt. Curious if that was a conscious decision?

Well done, Johannes. The title made me a bit sceptical, but very well delivered, a nice message and important topic.

Were you able to measure the impact of the green circles vs red in your chat app, even if just qualitatively?

The discovery section is super interesting. Nice idea.

I didn't quite get what it would be from the navbar link and related dropdown ("Why is there an 'email' category on an email inspiration website – surely everything is email?

  • Posted to Dealing with condescending colleagues?, Sep 09, 2019

If a colleague is being purposefully condescending, then report it to your manager. They need pulled up. That kind of behaviour is toxic in any workplace.

If a colleague is being unknowingly condescending, as they don't "get it", they need to see the value the work you provide. I've definitely been in this position when I was a new designer, but mostly it was my fault. The work I was doing was re-enforcing the idea that I was there to "make it pretty". Mocking up what a stakeholder wanted, passing it on to the dev team, repeat.

I broke out of this situation when I realised what my job actually was. The team had a problem, I created a rough prototype of a solution (which wasn't part of our regular process – I actually did this outside work as I had become so frustrated), and presented to the team, gathering their feedback. The team saw the direction we needed to move and it helped unblock us. We moved forward together.

For me, it's all about demonstrating process and problem-solving techniques, which include the broader team. It came from actions I took – which can be a bit daunting if you're a new designer, especially if you're a bit shy.

I agree with you there, Lola, however the title of the post isn't "5 Tips for designing landing pages that convert", it specifically calls out converting "international students". Just missed the mark a bit.
