Show DN - Personal Site

almost 5 years ago from , Designer

Hello everyone!

I'm super excited to get my new site live. I was hoping to get some final feedback from designers outside my network in order to put the finishing touches on this project. At this point, I've got a small list of tasks I'm crossing off but looking for some that I may have missed.

URL: timhouseholter.com.

Thanks for your time and look forward to some feedback!

Hi Tim, I love the layout of your website. It's simple and distraction-free. A few recommendations I have for you,

    1. You could add your 'About', 'Works' and 'Contact' on top of the page for your website visitors may already know you and may just want to view one section of your website.

    2. About: In your about section you could add the kind of freelance projects you have done. For example, "Redesign for a FinTech App" and a little description. This will add context to your work profile mentioned in the section.

Hope this helps. All the best! Maitrik Kataria

Looking good to me. Seams that it's mobile-optimized which is very nice and minimal. If I was going to give one piece of feedback I would say changing the device mockups to iPhone X with the notch might give it a modern touch. Just a thought (me being very nitpicky).

Thanks for the feedback! I had a few mockups with the iPhone X and went back and forth. I decided on the clay iPhone 8 because the mockups I found had more to choose from than the X. I'm currently working on a new project to upload and will for sure include an iPhone X! I do like your thought about that bringing a modern touch.

Really really nice overall. My only piece of feedback is that the fonts don't quite work together. A quick way to tell this is by looking at the shapes of the O's. The ones in Freight are more vertical whereas the ones in raleway are almost perfect circles. This makes them look out of place with each other. Apart from that the whole thing looks awesome. Nice work.

We're on the same page! I have aspirations to purchase Freight Neo Pro. This font, Raleway, is a good placeholder for now but V2 will feature a better font. Also, great pro tip about the "O's". I'm going to keep that one in my back pocket moving forward. I appreciate the comment!

Tim, great work! I believe whole site is custom coded?

I just have an annoying designer comment though.

On the last project's gif I noticed some illustrations are viewed low res.

Other than that everything is nice :) gj

      Hey George -

This site is built with custom code. I used the Skeleton.css for my grid and some basic Jquery for the animations/fade effects. I did have some help in setting up the contact form to submit to the right place.

Good catch on the low-res image. I have a new one made and will push a bunch of changes this week.

Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it.

I like it a lot — great colors, nice typography and subtle animations! Awesome!

    A few things I noticed:

    1. You have an SSL certificate but don't redirect regular requests. You want to do this, though. Not just because you have a contact form.
    2. The textarea on your form could be a bit better in terms of usability. Add resize: vertical to it and maybe increase the height (on focus?).
    3. The "About" hero picture could benefit from some better background-position as your face gets cropped when viewed on smaller screens.

Hey Thomas. Good catch about the SSL Certificate. I had that set up on my dev site but must have not carried over. I'll add that to my list of stuff to tweak.

I totally agree about the form. I spent most of my time getting it to submit properly. I'm going through and adding some more spacing on a few areas of my site and will include more time on the contact form.

About page image - I agree. I'm on the fence about this photo. I'm not sure this is the best foot forward when it comes to looking for new opportunities. I can crop and replace on smaller breakpoints as a start though.

Good feedback and I'll look into these this evening.
