I get it if there is a lot of trash around but... if you're going to take a picture of a piece of trash and take the time to post it on an app. Why not just use that time to pick it up and throw it away?

The idea is to report great amounts of plastic, as the one that is used as an example in the app interface pics. If it's just a small piece of trash, it's better to take action for ourselves, obviously.

If this isn't a commentary on the sad state of affairs these days - people wanting to photograph shit on the ground instead of actively doing something about it - then I don't know what is.

      • Goes to the beach
      • Phew thats a lot of trash
      • Takes photo of trash
      • Spends the next 16 hours making mockups of an app to tell others about the trash

You'd be surprised by the amount of trash - not only plastic - that you can find on beaches nowadays. Even if most cases are not as extreme as the ones that you'll find by doing a simple search for beaches + trash, one would take entire days to clean the average amount of plastic spread around beaches. Again, if people cleaned after themselves, this app would be plain useless and that would actually be a good thing.

Obviously, the main problem is pollution and the lack of respect for the environment, but there's no app that'll change the crappy attitudes some of us have.

Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me. I've spent many years volunteering with local groups in an effort to clean local state and national parks, including beaches. Being actively involved in environmental groups gives me a good amount of perspective :)

To his point you can't change the root cause, but the way you respond to it matters.

I think it's a great idea for motivating local groups to arrange voluntary clean up days etc. Why the negativity? I'd much rather see more responsible design ideas like this than another useless redesign concept of Spotify or Youtube.

SnapTrash is a mobile app that helps you to recycle plastic waste from your home. It’s an easy way to dispose the plastic bottles, cans, cartons, bags and other types of plastic waste from your home. Here http://ipsnews.net/business/2022/01/11/worlds-most-polluted-countries/ you will find the list of the countries that are the most polluted ones on the planet. I think they should use this app to reduce pollution from there country.
