This is extremely impressive. Get ready for the hate train that is DesignerNews, as anything that smells even vaguely impractical gets looked down on.

Not being pedantic, but can't we appreciate the novelty and also criticize the usability? Isn't that the point of good design? To balance usability and aesthetics.

I think it's fine to have an ongoing dialog, but I think it also has the potential to foster group-think. It's very predictable to go into any conversation on DesignerNews with a portfolio that pushes boundaries and breaks rules and just find people hating on performance, scroll-jacking, excessive page size, usability problems, readability problems, etc. I don't want Dribbble-level "AWESOME!!@#" comments either, but people seem to sip pretty hard on the haterade here.

The aesthetics of this site are super legit. Does it have to be that useable? The dude is basically showing off, and they killed it. I'd love a conversation about when you can throw away rules and expectations and just produce something visually stunning. Sometimes sites are meant to be read, and with others, the text is basically just light window-dressing. That's ok in my book!

Showing off is fine. Doing it in a way so that the site performs quickly and intuitively is even better. When showing off, you want to encourage people to view your greatness, not make it so frustrating that you discourage them instead.

Those 3D illustrations are incredible. Anyone know how they're done?

I bailed. On iOS, this was very slow, janky and unresponsive.

Works perfectly fine for me. In fact, super slick responsive portfolio site, especially considering the complexity.

I'll have to try it again on desktop when I get home.

I tried on new iMac and bailed. I guess I have pretty low tolerance for loading screens.

The stretch scrolling on the about page is so cool, I've never seen that kind of effect anywhere before. Also the about page is hilariously written.

Beautiful website overall, but I really despise "drag to scroll" websites. Regardless, good work, Mitch.

Love this. It's completely inaccessible and probably runs like crap but it's art and sometimes art pisses you off.

Like the glitche type effects, curious how you created those?

Great motion and layout, the design is sublime, altough I struggled to get the main project navigation to do what I intended I had to go back a couple times to succesfuly scroll, the main nav should also have the ability to be dragged, instead, the website captures the mousedown event as a direction to open the project, but what i wanted was to scroll.

It's just a black background with a colour changing cursor for me. How long does it take to load?

Same for me in Chrome. Switched to Edge and loaded fine there.

Yeah it worked in Safari for me, and it worked on Chrome on a different machine too. How odd. Impressive site tho.

Design wise it looks great but the interactions are terrible. Mouse hooking is in gernal a bad thing and so 90s. Everything moves on scroll can't focus my eye on relevant content it is more effect than information. Didn't try it on mobile but might be hell. We all should start animation less instead of animating everything. Not every food tastes better with sugar in it, ya know.

Apparently I am getting to that age where motion like this makes me nauseous.
