I miss Dann's weekly design breakdown/news videos, the dude seems super busy these days so i guess they're dead now. What do other people watch in the same guise?

This made my day Stephen. I took a break to focus on family. I don't make any money doing the videos and it was a huge time suck for me. Freelance was starting to dry up heavily so I took my time to try the videos. Now, we've moved away from San Francisco so I wanted to slow down for a bit and just enjoy life, my kids, and not producing. Maybe a little Fortnite here and there. I've been investing my time in learning more about video and taking classes, etc. Also got some sweet new gear.
I move into my new office in October and it'll have a studio as part of it where I'll have a set up to and I will be back. I'll be doing the news again and reviewing products, etc. I also have several film series coming out over the next 2 years. My main focus over the next two years is growing Epicurrence however so some fun stuff coming through that as well. Lots of online video and events. It might not be next week, but I will come back because messages like yours above make me so happy and I miss all of you! Was so awesome connecting with everyone through the videos.
In the meantime, I highly suggest following:
Charli Prangley https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCScRSwdX0t31gjk3MYXIuYQ
or
The Futur https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSkoolRocks
or
This guy is hilarious, Zimri Mayfield https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbqd2YmFeHMwxlj4NcN5zPQ
or
Ran Segall https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN7dywl5wDxTu1RM3eJ_h9Q
I'm sure you know most of these already. Anyways, appreciate the "miss" and catch ya online sometime soon.
Enjoy the time off Dan!
Cheers, Dann. I like the choices you're making, even if it means less fun videos for us.
Investing time in family is time very well spent. You've made a wise choice here (and hopefully avoiding burnout along the way).
wow, i wasn't really expecting a response from you… like at all!
I follow what you do on social media (well instagram) so got the general gist that you were taking time out to focus on family, moving and important things (hopefully you still get to surf), plus Epicurrence must take a huge time slot from you.
I think I miss your general relatable attitude and honest approach to video making, plus you always seem like you’re not taking things too seriously, you’re doing it because you care and are genuinely interested in reviewing something new that effects our industry (not because you’re getting, or hoping to get given free sh*t). I think this honest approach is what got me hooked, plus your recent ‘spaced’ challenge was super interesting in as far as submissions and seeing work critique
I’m super stoked that you’ve things in the pipeline though, look forward to seeing it unfold.
Thanks for the links, I’ll defiantly check them out
Keep up the good work boss man
Rob Hope from one-page love seems to be putting up videos pretty consistently breaking down new design news / tools https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGTYTyeDwv-aN7Re-lKUehw
Cheers for the shout out Joel - I'm ramping things up from next week (took a little break offline after my first 6 months on YouTube to step back and reflect on the future direction of the channel) and currently editing Feedback for Coffee #002 dropping in a couple hours!
Steve Schoger's Refactoring UI videos are great. Book coming out soon.
Steve Schoger is super legit. Going to see a talk from him in Waterloo (local to me) tomorrow and can't wait for it!
Last I read, he's investing a lot of time for future video production endeavors. But yes, his stuff in my opinion was superior to a lot of the "aww shucks everything is awesome!!!!1" tone of many other design vloggers. I sort of also miss Pablo Stanley as well since he's pivoted to Invision products.
I did recently come across the CharliMarieTV channel though, and she seems cool.
Check out Matt Smith as well - he hasn't posted a video in a few months, but his backlog is good
Now who's going to tell me what to eat? Chase Jarvis? Eric Kim? Come on!
