Where to find photographers?

Hi DN, I'm working on a redesign of an ecommerce site for my company. We've partnered with some really talented designers that we found through Dribbble.

Now we're looking for freelance photographers or photography agency to work on the product and lifestyle photoshoots.

Is there a similar community like Dribbble or Designer News for high quality photography?

How would you go about finding and vetting photographers? If you can recommend some Chicago-based photographers, please comment below!

Until recently 500px (https://500px.com/directory/location/ChIJ7cv00DwsDogRAMDACa2m4K8/Chicago-IL-USA) may have been quite THE community for photography and photographers.

  Hi Dav, Thanks for sharing 500px. This type of site is exactly what I'm looking for. Why do you say 'until recently'? Anything I should know about when using that site?

    Nothing wrong in general with the photographers featured and presented I guess, but the site itself got sold* earlier in 2018. (And they changed quite a bit and behaved badly even before°.)

I worked as a commercial photographer earlier in my career. A few thoughts...
1. Don't limit yourself to local photographers if you can help it.
2. If you want it done right, you're going to have to pay properly for the photos. Custom photography can be expensive, but well worth it if you find someone good.
3. PPA has a great resource for finding photographers: https://www.findaphotographer.com/
I know a lot of Chicago area photographers, but one who might be a great fit would be http://www.marcullom.com/. I've worked with him in the past and he's great at product and lifestyle work.

Snappr looks nice. Never tried it but it seems to be a good place to find specialized photographers: https://www.snappr.co/
