I sometimes hire designers, so took that perspective when looking at it. P.S - I'm not a design guru or anything but am hugely interested in it.
Take or leave this feedback, just blurting it out :)
Thanks for the feedback! Really good points there :)
Looks good Aleksi! :)
Looks pretty good. The prototype videos open in the same page on a modal but playback is disabled (playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner) Maybe fix that on YouTube?
Thanks for that one! Fixed :)
It's clean and simple. I like that. I noticed that the case study titles fall off when viewing the site on mobile. It would be nice to continue to have context as to what you're about to tap. :)
Thanks for the feedback! I'll add those titles back soon, it was just a temporary solution to prevent them from overlapping the devices :)
Overall it's pretty good.
The one thing sticking out for me i the gradients. While theres nothing wrong with the gradients, the colour scheme of your website seems very flat and minimal, and then when you activate the hover gradient effects it seems very out of place. I see that there is a small gradient bar at the top of the screen, but I didn't really notice it when i first went to the page, so that visual link was lost
One thing which I think would make it a lot better is if the pages had a slight transition (like a fade in/out) between them when you go between home and about. It would make the whole experience a bit more seamless.
This was my thought as well. Visual style is very clean—love the use of white space and type. The pastel case study colors are also very fresh. The saturated gradient in the hover overlay makes it feel disconnected from the rest of the page, though.
I disagree, I think the gradients are nice, BUT should be a custom color scheme for each product - what's weird about them now is that they're not connected to the otherwise limited colors in each square.
Yeah theres nothing wrong with the grads, but as gavin said before the colours don't really mesh with the rest of the site.
I have had a quick look through and had the following thoughts:
It feels fast, loading is minimal which is good.
Stick the gradient that you have on body::before on the html and make the body background white. Then when you get browser bounce when scrolling up you will see the gradient rather than white space which will look nice and give the impression that extra care has been taken in development.
You say you have 5+ years experience on the about page but your work experience only goes back to 2015. That would make me suspicious (of your maths skills at the very least).
It feels basic but the case studies are neatly presented.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the feedback!
I edited some copy on the about page. My intention on that paragraph was to showcase that I've been doing this stuff for 5+ years, and not that I've been working professionally that long :)
You say you have 5+ years experience on the about page but your work experience only goes back to 2015. That would make me suspicious (of your maths skills at the very least).
eehhh the amount of work shown doesn't have to correlate with the amount of time you've been working.
Don’t worry, I didn’t expect to see five years worth of case studies!
Originally, the about page text said that Aleksi had 5+ years experience but then went on to show only 3-4 years of actual work experience listed. As a potential employer I would find that suspect. I wasn’t having a go, just pointing out the inconsistency that has now been fixed.
Like everyone said, overall it's looking good and there's very few things to say on the visual aspects. Maybe only your title in italic felt odd for me, I'm not sure what justifies this style. Also, the "active" state of your nav is the same as your "logo" which could be slightly confusing if we are super duper nitpicky.
However, my main disappointment was to only see a series of images when I opened your case study. With this sort of design (white, centered, legible font, optimised for a reading experience) I was hoping to read about your process and decision making. Eventually pick up some new practices to try out myself.
I guess it depends on what you want to "market" yourself with your website, personally, when I read UX in the title, I expect to see deeper content :).
Overall looking good. Very clean and fast. The only thing I noticed that was off was having a hamburger menu for two links. It seems like overkill, especially with such a minimal design.
