Which software do you use to design animations?

Hi DN,

Here's my problem: I don't want to subscribe to Creative Cloud just for After Effects (my main creative tools are Sketch and Pixelmator) and in a different genre, Quartz Composer doesn't seem optimized for Retina displays. I'd love to know what you guys use when it comes to design UI things in motion!

Right now, I use CSS and jQuery/Coffee Script but I want a more visual way of presenting things in context to my clients or developers. Time is also a factor sometimes.

  That's really cool. I'm looking into it right now. There's a WIP Sketch exporter tool I found that could totally work for me: https://github.com/bomberstudios/sketch-framer

    Looks pretty cool indeed but the unofficial Sketch plugin is still quite unstable... So I'll need to export PNGs, which kills the fun really :D

        Cemre, I'd like to help out with sketch-framer, but I am not sure the best place to start. I'll start looking at some of the outstanding issues for now.

Quartz Composer is great for implementing interaction, but rubbish for designing animation timing. After Effects is excellent for animation timing, but offers no interactivity.
Having both in your toolbelt is the best solution right now. The state of tools at this point in time is rubbish

  Keynote is great for blocking, but rubbish for actually 'DESIGNING' animation.

I've been actually tweeting about that one recently. After using Keynote for a while, I started to feel pretty constrained, so I switched to After Effects, which is a powerhouse and an absolute overkill for UI animations. I then tried switching to Quartz Composer, but the learning curve is quite steep. I'm now between After Effects and Framer.js but I'm sure there's a niche for Sketch-like product in this space.

I'm using Keynote and QC. But I would pay a ton of cash for one tool that I can REALLY use on daily basis. Just take my money.

It is pretty simple but lately I've started using www.flinto.com for IOS apps. Its an amazingly fast and easy to use tool for prototyping.

I know it might be expensive, but I would recommend After Effects. You'll never have to worry about being limited by what the software can and cannot do.
