Watched the video. I didn't realize how many people stand and draw.
Should designers learn to stand and draw?
Medium article incoming in 3...2...1...
Should developers design while standing?
Re the video: I know it’s acting but, wow! People going outside, getting inspired by something and putting that into their work instead of immediately mindlessly ripping off whatever is trendy on dribble.
Design like it should be! Happening to me aaaall the time …
The real news here is that Publisher is coming! Beta end of August! :D
Yeah that's big news. Been waiting for Publisher for years...
Any whispers that Publisher will come to the iPad as well?
Pretty sure it will, but after the desktop version.
I'm using it right now. With iCloud you can use both apps on the ipad/mac at relatively the same time. Really awesome.
If InVision had a Craft plugin for Affinity, I would probably switch over to it 100%
not a direct sync but the ability to design the screens, then export out the PDF/PNGs of them to upload is possible
JUST bought a 12.9 iPad. Perfect timing!
Edit: been playing around with it and finding it a bit cumbersome for UI work, but I’m going to check out the tutorials and see if I’m missing anything. Off the bat, doesn’t have snapping (to artboard or other objects), editing text is not easy (seems like you need to select all the text before making changes vs just selecting the text box object), gradients are not intuitive, and I’m not loving the brushes (Pixelmator, procreate, etc. are amazing there).
But like I said, maybe I’m just not using it right. Anyone having success making any quick mockups to play around with it? I’d love to use this as a tool when I don’t feel like pulling out my computer or if it isn’t nearby.
snapping is here you must to turn it on “left top corner > second icon (document with three dots) > snapping”. You can customize snapping options better than in other apps"Sketch, Figma"... Left bottom icon is only for quick turn on/off.
I recommend you to turn on 8px grid with grid snapping if you creating some UI designs, it will speed up positioning of your elements
variation on “Sketch” symbols is here too
i dont have problem with text editing at all just tap to text box where i want to make changes... selecting all text without some BT keyboard is little pain...
dont compare procreate (bitmap only) to affi designer (vector, bitmap) brushes... You can create simple vector only illustration (you know the trendy ones) to your UIs and avoid all compresion quality/x sizes for differend devices real world bitmap problems
I think this tool is very capable to creating UI on go... (most capable iOS app right now) You must get used to the fact that the control is just a little bit different from the desktop and some smart cover with keyboard is recommended. Keyboard arrows for positioning selected objects is real deal (You can also adjust nudge distance... screen for file selection > right top corner (cog wheel) > Tools)
Great tips! Thanks :)
Thanks, I watched some of the tutorials last night and learned some tricks. The pencil and brush tool are taking some getting used to, sometimes when I select a default brush it doesn’t work. But when I select another default brush it does. Maybe user error.
Any "special" reduction for DN users?
Already at 30% off?
Goin go sneak down into the cafe and do some "work" now...
Bought!
Damn I waited so long for this. Even checked Affinity's twitter yesterday to see if I missed some news about it. Can't wait to get home and check it out!
