Anyone using Gallery from Google for handoff?

Currently preparing for hand-off of a large scale project for first phase of development, and I'm considering giving Gallery a try for specs. Anyone got any experience?

I've tried Zeplin in the past but have been underwhelmed with the offerings for the price. Invision is handling the prototypes already, but I am not a fan of their chaotic inspect mode, plus all devs will need to sign up. Right now we use g-suite across the whole organisation, so Gallery has the plus of just working in that regard. I get so many compaints with invision/Zeplin about "Do I seriously need to sign up to an account to inspect this one screen??" (and of course, all the growth hacking drivel that follows in the inbox over the next weeks).

Yeah, so, anyone got anything good/bad/neutral to say about Gallery? From what I'm seeing...it's looks pretty minimal and I'm hoping it does one job well.

    Just started using it at my job since a week or 2. It works really well.

    We previously used Sketch Cloud to share designs that aren't finished yet, Zeplin to share them to the developers once finished (and a new Sketch cloud 'final' link) and Sketch Cloud for the most basic click-through prototypes (prototyping in Sketch replaced Invision a little while ago aswel). This meant everyone had to have a Sketch, Zeplin (and before) Invision account. Now they're all able to use Gallery by using our connected Gsuite emails. This helps a ton in having easy communication and having everyone on the same page.

    I'd love to see them implement Sketch prototypes in Gallery. This would make it complete for us. Most 'advanced' prototypes I do in Framer/Principle etc so I don't really need those to be in the same tool as the rest of the static designs. I now just create a Google Doc with all the URL's to the Framer/Principle/etc. stuff in there and link that doc in the corresponding Gallery project.

    The way you can create folders/iterations of your projects works really well too but it takes a little bit of getting used to. The first time I received some comments, I updated the design with a new iteration and this erased all the previous comments. Not sure if I did something wrong there or the UX is a little bit wonky. Ideally I'd be able to update my designs, switch between older iterations when viewing them and still see all the comments. Or always see all of the comments with a 'iteration' number behind them or something so I know if they're useful for the current design I'm looking at. `

    All in all for me it's a great tool. It needs some small updates and the ability to use Sketch's prototype function and it'll be complete imo.

        Haven't had any issues yet really. Although I'm not the one thats using the inspect mode a lot. Thats up to the developers that build my designs. Haven't had a complaint from them yet aswel though.

    We made the switch last week. Pretty smooth overall with an exception of a few small bugs. Still beats the Invision + Zeplin combo (and it's free).

    Ever since Sketch came out with their own interactive prototyping, we don't use InVision anymore so I'm curious as to why people still use InVision? You don't have to take the extra steps to transfer it to InVision and even the Craft Plugin is still more steps than Sketch's own interactive prototyping. Haven't looked backed ever since.

    We also use Zeplin and haven't found much reason to switch. I'm curious what offerings you want Zeplin to have? Because to me it seems that the only difference between Zeplin and Gallery is that Gallery doesn't require you make an account. I also found that the Zeplin team is very responsive to product feedback and requests, I've made a request before and they implemented it a few months later. So maybe other people have the same requests as you, you never know unless you ask.

      We switched from Zeplin to Invision, because it offers so much more for basically the same price:

      In my opinion the most important feature, inspect mode, is lacking in both applications. So why not choose the platform, that offers more. Although I have to say, that we hardly use anything else besides the inspect mode. So if Zeplin's inspect mode would become far superior I'd consider switching again.

      Avocode's inspect feature seems to be the best, however I can't justify its pricing.

        I haven't dabbled much with Invision's inspect mode, the last time I did there was a lot of lag but that also could be due to the size of my Sketch files. My team doesn't use inspect mode to it's fullest potential, our main use cases for using Zeplin are having one place to store and view files with the ability to make comments and have version control. Strangely enough, I found out about Avocode through one of my friends but that led me down the rabbit hole to explore similar products and ultimately went with Zeplin. From what I've seen and read in the design community, Zeplin seems to be more widely used than Avocode.

      We use inVision so that we can actually share the prototype with the client via a sharable link. Sketch native prototyping doesn't support this yet as of last time I checked.

        Sketch native prototyping supports a shareable link now. It uploads your creation to the Sketch Cloud and whoever views the link will see it in the browser

    I wish I could replace Invision with Gallery but as far as I can see you can't create clickable prototypes (yet?).

    So far, really pleased with this but I'm hoping to use it for client feedback and it's not letting me allow viewers outside of my GSuite domain! Anyone had any luck?

    Don't even bother, it will probably be discontinued anytime soon like every other Google product.

    Try Adobe XD or Sketch + Zeplin or Invision.

      Yes, I get a blank screen as well. I am using Firefox on a corporate computer/network. Seems to work fine in Chrome on the same laptop. I find it rather concerning if they don't bother even minimal support for Firefox.

      Google doesn't exactly have a great track record with maintaining projects of this sort. I also haven't seen them investing in the general creative/design space, and I don't see this fitting with current revenue streams. I'd wager on-going support will disappear and it'll either limp along or get cut.

    When I tried Gallery for 5 minutes it performed a bit worse (in edge cases) than Invision/Zeplin. For very easy designs it might be okay, but I ran into issues immediately.

    In general, I'm underwhelmed with all handoff services. Still, using Invision ... :/

        As far as I remember it had basically the same issues as Invision or Zeplin, like layers suddenly not selectable anymore, layers' bounding boxes moved around the canvas, Symbols not being correctly displayed/expanded, etc.

        A big advantage is, that you can create nested folders - something, that could come in very handy in bigger projects. Invision's sections are not up to the task.

        I guess, ditching Invision for Gallery won't result in much greater satisfaction. On the other hand, you save quite some money.

      Yeah, I saw a few problems coming up with nested symbols, that's obviously a dealbreaker. Thanks for the reply.
