    Really nice design. Good work.

The one thing sticking out is the serif font that is only used in the sub-heading. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the site which is super clean.

Yeah, you're not wrong. Wanted something to switch it up a bit, as it's a secondary part of the ingredient and looked a little odd in the primary font. Will try some other pairs :)

    These recipes look great!

Feedback: I find a Print button is always useful for recipe sites.

Keep up the good work :)

Our IT corporate overlords think this is a porn site for some reason.

I really like the color palette used. Way different from other "food/recipe sites". Was there much thought put into that decision?

This was loosely the outcome of not having money to throw at photoshoots/props for every recipe, wanting to stand out, and just my design style - big fan of clean, simple and usable designs :)

Great job Corey. Out of curiosity, what tech stack is this built on?

      Thanks man!

It's built using Middleman with the Middleman-blog extension (so Ruby/Rails/Sass). Pulling in the recipe data from front-matter/markdown. The repo is all public, so feel free to pick it apart :D https://github.com/CoreyGinnivan/urbanplate

Mate, that's awesome - absolute gem. Makes me wish I knew about Middleman a few weeks ago when I was building a static single page site - maybe on the next one.

"absolute gem" - was that a ruby pun? :D

And yeah definitely look in to it. Middleman paired with Netlify was an absolute breeze to work with.

"ruby pun" - ya know it! "Netlify" another service I never heard of... damn... I feel out of the loop, but so greatful you are sharing. Thanks Corey.

Great design Corey. I appreciate that you were able to display a topic (recipes) in a way that isn't overwhelming. Between that issue and ads onscreen, it isn't an easy thing to do.

Nice! But make sure you make it a lil more responsive. Here's a shot from a pretty typical browser size: https://imgur.com/ImhAOs3

This was originally a mistake, but I got a lot of positive feedback on loving the images go over the text, so I decided to keep it :P

What's your process around the photography of the food and recipes? Great work so far. Also what do you mean about seeking a company to help take this to the next level?

I've got a Foldio2 lightbox (made by Orange Monkey), which I just throw the food in to and take some snaps. Then I just bring the photos in to photoshop and cut them out (with various methods), fix up the photos (colour balance, contrast, saturation, etc). With the companies to help out, I'll be releasing a better page explaining it, but would just love a couple of sponsors to help cover the cost of new plates/props, ingredients hosting, etc - just to help keep it running with minimal cost. More money = more recipes quicker!

This is awesome! Love the photography and color palette.

Any combination of great design and vegetarian food definitely speaks to me! Where's the email field so I can be notified of new recipes?

    Great looking site!

I would suggest looking into adding some structured data to your page to improve your Google search results. https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/intro-structured-data

Awesome website man, great work! I wanna try the gnocchi recipe tonight :D Regarding the typography I would increase the line height on paragraphs, maybe around 1.4, 1.5, I find it better to read.

      Haha thanks man.

It's more personal preference, but it literally says "Keep refrigerated" on the front of the egg carton ;)

      Nice design!

Feedback: eggs don't belong on a plate. Also milk should only be consumed by baby calfs.

In the US people generally put their eggs in the fridge. There are some health-related reasons - because of the way US eggs have to be washed the outer layer of the shell get weakened and there is increased risk of contamination. Putting them in the fridge reduces the risk.

The rest of the world has more sane laws around washing eggs. :)

Just launched a little side project of mine! There's a couple of things I want to fix up (just wanted to ship and iterate), but would love some feedback
