Sketch Plugin Idea, Looking For Feedback

over 5 years ago from

Hello, I'm looking to gauge interest if sketch users would be interested in a plugin that would bring css media queries features into Sketch.

MVP 1. Adjust top and bottom margin guides on symbols 2. Adjust type styles based on the artboard width 3 Swap symbols based on the artboard width

Anyone know of a plugins that are already doing this? If not would you be interested if I made one? Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, Joe

UPDATE: Looks like I'm going to tackle this project. If you are interested we are collecting emails at: https://stackswell.io

This is a great idea. I've been looking for a similar plugin as our team has struggled with this in the past.

Being able to adjust type styles based on artboard width would be incredibly handy as our team uses Text Styles religiously :)

Would you look to provide an option to create new breakpoint variants of an existing Text Style? Eg. Going from Small/Body/C-align/Normal on a Small device width, to a Large Device width and suggesting Large/Body/C-align/Normal or something to that effect?

      Hey William,

I was thinking you would set up styles like normal let's say on your small break point. Then you would select your text box and assign the styles for your break points.

Your idea might be cleaner and less work so if it we do build this thing we'll check out that route as well. Great idea.

      Thanks

Yes — all 3 features sound great, but #2 alone would get me to open my wallet.

Sounds a very good idea. Anything that would make Sketch, XD, Figma etc behave more like an application written in code I'm sure would be welcomed. :)

That'd be neat. I instantly see value in #2 and #3. Not too sure if I understand what #1 is supposed to do exactly.

Do you think text style swaps on artboard change could and should affect text styles within (nested) Symbols as well?

Yes indeed. Anything that brings CSS (itself for the control or as similar features) into Sketch would make my life easier. :D

Very cool Shawn. Between those 3 is one more valuable than the others or one that you think would save you more time?

Swap Symbols > Adjust Type Styles > Margins.. at least how I might attempt to achieve something in my current workflow
