Anyone else having problems with Adobe products?

almost 6 years ago from , Digital Design Nomad

In general i am using sketch for my work. I create user interfaces. Currently i am working in illustrator and make some illustrations. Couple of days ago i used photoshop to crop images and do a thing. I have nearly 15 years experience in different adobe programs. The last days where a huge disaster. Illustrator is near to non functional workflow wise. So many little bugs i won't count. Workflows are really old and time consuming. All over the Adobe applications there are ton of bugs unfinished implementations of features. If i feedback bugs to adobe they just say: reinstall the application. Come on... Why do they still create useless features instead of polishing their apps for a new generation?

I just want to ask how many of you still using Adobe products? And also want to know if you guys have the same hazzle that i have. I thought it might be helpful to write an open letter to adobe in the name of the designernews community, what do you think about that? I still have the opinion that Adobe doesn't care anymore.

I currently thinking about switching to Affinity for illustrations. But i still need to keep After Effects and Photoshop. I don't like whats out there at the moment for these two, recommendations welcome.

    Company too big

Apparently outsourced most of the developers on most of the products (Apart from PS and AE) to the third world.

Cares more about shifting services to large corporations than making creative tools

Bought out their only true competitor long ago

Users have to pay every month indefinitely so no reason to innovate

Why is this post being buried? This was on the front page and now you can't even find this post with the search. #illuminati

They changed the title, because i wrote a bad word, but it was the truth. But you are right. It is gone it was on top right?

Adobe's software is pretty bad and John already listed most of the reasons (they have no strong incentive to innovate or take risks, they are an old company with code some code bases older than 30 years, so naturally hard to maintain and work with, poor understanding of actual end users), but then again, it's not like the competition is that much better either.

Sketch fucks so many things up with every tiny update that people are scared to update and you get whole threads here on DN trying to figure out what's still working, it has its own set of bugs and quirks and the advantages are only marginal.

Affinity Designer is pretty fast and performant, but it's essentially just PS/AI with a modern code base, it can't do anything new and is not on feature parity with Adobe Software.

XD is taking ages to add even basic features so adoption has been slow, but with Adobe behind them, it is growing, maybe in a few years it will be usable.

I'm still not sure what Figma's deal is, but it's a web tool so I'm good.

The new tools all seem similar to each other and not really bringing anything all that impressive.

So I guess it's a really tough problem to solve too, it's not just that Adobe is rubbish.

It performs better than Sketch by a long shot, and there is a client you can download to get fonts syncing. The fact that it's web based isn't an issue at all, but a huge benefit for sharing any sort of work or basic prototyping. I use it for everything I can. Hell, you can even do it on linux! ;)

The answer is the same for any product that doesn't evolve. I call it 'loser's mentality'. You can interpret it as you wish (in fact even the literal interpretation will do), but its basically a vicious cycle created by people who don't know how to make decisions and tend to make bad ones when they do. There's a lot of companies like that and none of them is aware of what their real issue is.

I have avoided Adobe products for a while, especially after they introduced the updated "new file" window. Now Illustrator CC 2018 won't even export SVGs anymore, rendering it basically useless for any production job. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2401916

I'm curious what issues you were having using illustrator? I use it fairly regularly and haven't had any real issues with it.

I agree with what many have said, perhaps they have gotten too big. Their software feels bloated, but if you know what functionality you want to use it for and ignore the other 90% I think it works pretty well.

      For example:

The color Swatches/Switcher. The element where you choose stroke or shape for coloring. If i want to change the shape color it chooses the stroke color or even nothing.

Lagy as hell, just a normal illustratiosn icons if you want easy shapes.

Export was never great out of illustrator

3 Dots for closing/minimizing sometimes disapear

Crashes 2-3 times a day without any sign, just disappears

And yes i reinstalled everything the hole cloud app. No improvement.

I don't have any issues with Adobe products. I rarely use them nowadays and mostly touching After Effects/Photoshop/Illustrator combo but when I do I it gets the job done pretty fast and without issues.

Same exact feeling. I invested so much in Adobe and the subscription for a team of 5 is insane. They build new products with 3/4 features when the CORE ones are getting worst. Next year will be my last opportunity for adobe. I waited for Adobe X to test it before changing. Now I am waiting for Invision Studio. And this time next year I will make a tough decision.

Probably Stack: Affinity Photo -> All team Affinity Designer -> All team After Effects <- just a few subscriptions Affinity Publisher ->All team Invision Studio <- FREE for all team | Windows and mac and invision synced :)

Photoshop and illustrator are impossible to work with right now. :/ Photoshop artboard are forbidden right now. :/
