The lines are so thin that even in their own mockup the mark becomes just an unrecognizable blob of red.
Those typefaces ...
Each, on it's own, is nearly cringeworthy- and the combination of the three feels like a self-parody.
At least something that looks like something out of Wipeout and feels aimed at the future.

So I am a big F1 fan... and I have to say I kinda like this. The highest level of racing should be over the top and futuristic. The past branding feels too understated now.
I think they nailed the overall feeling of the brand. It feels futuristic, fast, and fun. It's almost like understated Tron. I really dig it.
The old logo was amazing. They'll go back to it in a few years, mark my words.
Yep. New logo is OK - but fails to match the standard of the previous one.
I don't mind the new logo, it feels maybe a little too abstracted for something like Formula 1. I like that they've taken it to a bit of a risky modern take, but maybe it's looking a little bit much like a tech startups logo, instead of a historically important motorsport that churns billions of dollars a year.
The typefaces are interesting. I don't like the 'Regular' variation because it feels too digital. While the 'a' reminds me of the corner of a race track, I just find it a bit illegible when paired with other letters in a long word.
I really like the 'Torque' version! It makes me think of using the AFX slot car race toys I had when I was a young lad. I think it has a high end industrial sports vibe to it. I'm a big fan of that variation.
A shame they didn't refine the existing. However, I like this new logo. It seriously could use a few tweaks for legibility. It's bit too late now... So 'ri' smudge it is.
Absolutely love the typefaces though. I feel F1 is a suitable place for such out there fonts. Unlike some recent rebrands we've seen. . .
Where did the "1" go :(
still there :)
Oh man reddit is going to be irate over this
it does seem rooted in video games (SEGA!), but don't think it's necessarily a bad connotation imo. It feels forward-moving/energetic and skews towards "right" vs totally missing the mark.
I'd love to get my hands on that logomark evolution book!
Yeah that book looks awesome.
It's very WipEout, the team behind it even reference the work the Designers Republic did as inspiration
I like it, but I don't like the typeface choices to supplement the logo. Especially at smaller sizes on TV it will be difficult to read.
Same.
I really like the logo, not so much the typeface. And I thought the exact same thing about hose leaderboards on tvs...
I like the typeface, is cool, but feels a bit dated, reminds me of wipeout (game for the ps1). It was mentioned in the article that was a very difficult challenge to come with a better solution for a new logo. Maybe another solution would be just to modernize the old logo maintaining the negative space concept. My 5 cents :)
I wonder if in this case its a good business decision. New logo = new merch = boost in sales as fans gobble up the new stuff.
Honestly I thought I was gonna hate this before I even saw it, but I love it. Has a high-bpm rhythm to it. It's aerodynamics over everything. Bold, fast, loud, unapologetic – just like the sport itself. Very rad.
