Shortcuts.design - Any shortcut a designer ever wants to know, all in one place

6 years ago from , Product Design intern at Awkward

Hey DNers!

I'm Michel van Heest, a second-year UX/UI designstudent. For the last few months, I worked on Shortcuts.design in my spare time.

Shortcuts.design is a small website that lists every shortcut a designer ever wants to know, all designapps in one place and in a simple and clear way. It's very usefull for beginning designers to quickly charge their workflow, when you switched to a new designtool or when you just want a reference to see which shortcut to use for that action you have to do all day long.

I build this tool to charge my own workflow and to help the first-year designstudents at my university I teach to work with designtools to become better in the tools they're using; maybe Shortcuts.design can speed up your workflow as well!

Check it out at Shortcuts.design !!

I'm open for any feedback, feature requests and AMA so feel free to contact me down in the comments or via Twitter.

I also launched the site on Producthunt, feel free to catch me here!

Cheers! And please let me know what you think about the site

Why no Windows? Any shortcut a designer ever wants to know. So there is not any designer using Windows softwares?

Haha I’ve got that feature request a lot :) it’s coming soon but I wanted to know what everybody thought about the website before I made it bigger. So Windows is coming, if you have any other feedback or request, please let me know!

I just want to second Davin's feedback. Without adding too much clutter to the page, I think it could be useful to have some sort of global switch for displaying OSX or Windows shortcuts - just doubling the list for more or less the same content would seem a bit redundant and waste a ton of space.

I am using this tool on my mac - CheatSheet if you press ⌘ command key, the tool shows list of short-cuts of active application.

The moment when a large German magazine writes an article about your website: http://t3n.de/news/website-zeigt-shortcuts-webgeeks-873488/

    Well done!

Could you make a hover state for each row? It would be easier to see which description belongs to which command. :)

Nice. You know what would make a service like this really useful IMO? To have it as a native menubar app you can search through. Opening up a web browser, going to this site, clicking on Sketch then doing CMD + F is more hassle than just googling the shortcut and I would not see myself reaching for this when needing a shortcut.

Thanks for your feedback Cristian! I think you have a really valid point there and I will take it in consideration! Thanks and I hope you can still get some use out of it

This is actually already a native feature in Mac OS. If you press Command + Shift + / in any app, type the shortcut you want to use and then hit the down arrow—you can see exactly where the option is on the context menu and its shortcut.

Interesting project. BTW maybe you know how can I change shortcuts from Sketch. For example, I change hide/view layers to cmd+shift+v, but it doesn't work. Also, I change group layers from cmd+g to cmd+shift+b, it's definitely better for me, but all my changes are not working. WHY?
