Still no underline. Edit: I see CC Libraries is still a window.

I still cringe every time I see that blog design though. It's so bad and bland that I half expect to see those "links from around the web" ads at the end of each posts…

No one else mentions in the comments so I will, did you see the Adobe Sensei demo with XD during Max today? Details https://9to5mac.com/2017/10/18/adobe-max-2017-sensei-machine-learning-voice-assistant-facial-recognition/

Tl;dr It was truly revolutionary and not another invention of Sketch/ Photoshop. The demo was using a voice assistant to take an iPad prototype and say “make iPhone 8 designs.” Then the assistant spit out the same design in every art board with suggested layouts for the new design. It utilized an intelligent design assistant to facilitate an entire new set of art boards that then perfectly wired up into a shareable prototype. Automation and AI are the next ten years of design tooling, so 2017 isn’t even on Adobe’s radar. Let’s see Sketch, Figma or any other new product do something this amazing http://www.adobe.com/sensei.html

Adobe XD will benefit from future Sensei integration as well, with a simple voice command optimizing a design for multiple screen layouts.

But, why? How about symbol resizing or the 100s of other essential features we need, first?

Let’s see Sketch, Figma or any other new product do something this amazing.

I do not want that. I really, really do not want that.

Define essential as a quantitative measurement and a config file to a computer - then with voice recognition or a gesture resize infinite shapes at once. You’re right about the design community at large thinking essential in today’s world gets my paycheck and meets my current needs. But why reinvent Photoshop just rebranded as XD? Is InVision really solving the real problem for creative tooling by making another Sketch? Sensei and AI in general will bring the next 10 years of essential.

Define essential as a quantitative measurement

The direct output of design is thinking, organising, and ultimately, a visual expression of the final product. With that in mind — and even if you’re designing for AR, VR, MR, or some future thing — the basics of design need to be covered. We need to be able to express shapes with fairly complex styling and masking. We need advanced typographic abilities. We need to be able to deliver assets to use in the product.

I’d go as far as saying colour management is an absolutely essential feature for 2017. Sensei in XD signals a lack of focus to me.

then with voice recognition or a gesture resize infinite shapes at once

In terms of input and output bandwidth, voice is one of the slowest methods to interact with a computer. It has a lot of value, especially when paired with tiny computing devices, but that doesn’t mean it should be a major input component for a design tool.

You’re right about the design community at large thinking essential in today’s world

I am also considering the future. Talking to computers isn’t going to work for many tasks, until we have generalised AI. And even then, I’m not sure it’ll be the right choice for many tasks.

I agree we need useful button UI and systemic behaviors in our designing software. Once again, it was a Sensei prototype demo that I hope answers the question of how an arthritic ridden hand that can’t operate a mouse still designs or opens up the creative world to the blind. Accessible design is the best design. Sure, AI is in it’s in infancy now, but we couldn’t have imagined CSS export 20 years ago in tools which is now the new baseline. Perhaps this is one reason IDEO purchased an AI company? I’m not saying these other tools aren’t beneficial in today’s landscape. Every product has to ship - full featured or not. But, when does the computer finally start becoming more predictive and more intuitive?

I think you might be moving the goal posts a little bit too much.

I just want the fastest and most precise ways to work. And yes, inclusion is an important part of that, but I think AI and voice input are likely to augment what we have now, and not replace them.

I haven't watched the demo, nor will I - I am too fed up with Adobe talking shit. But from the titles I understand it adds 1. voice control and 2. an AI component to the app that can magically analyse your images / design and turn them into something else. Voice control is not bad, but if you consider that I can barely ask Siri/Google Now to create a reminder and not get it wrong, I am reaaaally skeptical of what a new to market product from Adobe, a company known for shit, buggy software, can do. The second part, whatever the details are, sounds like marketing talk and I expect the real product, when it does launch some 2 years from now, in beta, will not do half of what they claim.

Meh, its still Adobe...although XD is finally a good step forward, I'm more excited about InVision's Studio offering. https://www.invisionapp.com/studio

Yeah, why? Not only did we not get to try it and see if it is just as shitty and laggy as the rest of InVision's software or actually good and fast (which XD, for all its lack of features, is), but I have to ask what exactly does it bring to the table?

It looks like a copy of Sketch, which on its own doesn't do anything revolutionary. XD at least tried new things like the repeat grid or native prototyping.

I'm intrigued about the animation functionalities. It's not something I have to do a lot of, but if they provide me with something that lets me prototype complex animations faster than I can do them in after effects, that would be pretty awesome.

Costs more (and it's a subscription) than Sketch but with less features. Nice.

If you use CC only for XD that's true, but if you use other CC programs as many do it's no additional cost which can be a big deal to many people.

You're not wrong, but that just means there's a problem in the pricing model. It should be an economic choice both individually and for those who already have CC.

It's ok if some people here find value in other tools. We'll continue to our best to help designers move faster and more effectively, especially now that XD has the same capabilities on Mac and Windows. Next year will be a great year for XD. After being told that they were saving the most recent update news for MAX, I was expecting something more than just 1.0 with (apparently) no new features.

XD has been fairly stable since I started using it as a primary design tool about a year ago -- we're sticking with Adobe CC because of all the other software, but AE is the one keeping us from moving on.

That said, there have been no significant updates for the past few months, which is really frustrating, as the software is still pretty lacking in some aspects. So yeah. Disappointing.

Does this version of XD have dev handoff or is it already there and I am missing it?

    • Sandro P, over 5 years ago

It doesn't. I couldn't find any new feature on this release, other than the shiny "1.0" version number.

      What a disappointment.

I felt the same. I saw PS, AI, Premiere Pro, AE all get updates except XD. There's a ton of stuff that need to be fixed. Your type tool defaults to "Segoe UI" every freakin time......Why?

Are there any new features? The "new features" list just shows every single feature of the app. It looks like all you did was slap 1.0 on it.

I do hope I could use XD at some point, but the dev process is somewhat slower than I had expected, 1.0 is out today but it still does not provide the most basic tools needed for UX design

I have never been a fan of this tool, especially with their symbols/components (which seem quite basic), but it looks like they have done a decent job with the libraries integration that exceeds only symbols (colour, text styles, and images).
