Anyone else want to run Sketch app on the new Google Pixelbook?

6 years ago from

My MBP is 4 years old, but I and my employer don't want to buy a new one with a touchbar... So I'm just waiting on apple to get smart and make a new 32mb ram based MBP, without a touchbar. Invision, when you buy sketch, can you set it up to run on Chrome OS? A guy can dream, right?

I have tried figma and adobe xd, and my personal opinion is that neither has the features and ease of use that sketch does.

Not really, but Sketch for iPad Pro? That would ace

Probably Figma is the best bet here since Sketch is actually (I think) entirely based on MacOS APIs…!

If I was going to switch to another OS, Chrome would be right at the bottom of the list; I honestly don’t get it from a creative point of view.

Sure, the Pixelbook is a nice bit of kit but I’d feel the pain of the OS limitations.

I was thinking that when I was watching the presentation yesterday. The more I think about it - with what Pixel Book has to offer, it would truly be perfect for my design workflow if Sketch was available for it.

However, without Sketch I'm not sure if I would adopt it, and it wouldn't make sense for Bohemian Coding to even spend their resources working on the Sketch App for Chrome OS if there aren't enough designers using it.

Would be great if Bohemian would create a webversion of sketch, like figma. But i think its really difficult with all the plugins and the new library feature etc. That features is the reason I dont switch to figma - and of course i'm emotionally bonded with sketch

Lack of Sketch for Windows is what would stop me purchasing any of the Surface range. Apple have Bohemian Coding to thank for a lot of their business from our industry.

Bobby, I totally agree. I wonder what % of designers would leave apple if sketch were available on chrome OS or windows.

I don't think so. Designers designed happily on Apple long before ol' Sketcharoo hitched a ride. That's precisely WHY Sketch decided to focus on it as their primary platform.

This. I think that far too many people in DN are stuck in a Sketch echo-chamber.

Sketch is not the be-all and end-all for design work, and web/digital designers are not the be-all and end-all of designers.

Sketch is a neat product for a small percentage of the market. Making claims such as Sketch being the reason for Apple's current market share is a massive fallacy.

I wrote about how I design on a Pixelbook: https://blog.figma.com/how-you-can-design-end-to-end-on-a-chromebook-ebd1e9bb1b90

When I worked at Square, I was using Chromebooks to design, and really loved Figma so much that I work there now.

I'd rather run it on Windows
